As its title suggests this is not just a list of names and dates but a serious research into the people behind the names on the various WW2 memorials in Bridlington including all the old boys of Bridlington School who died in WW2. The book begins with a detailed look at where the memorials are, when they were made and the names that appear on them. This is followed by the roll of honour itself, an alphabetical listing which gives a full page to each person named on the memorials. The Authors have used 'typical' family history resources in order to give as much biographical detail as possible, who they were, their parents, husbands / wives and children, where and how they died and what they did before enlistment. Some died in well-known land battles, some went down with their ships, while others were in aircraft that failed to return home. Not all were in the armed forces and these met their deaths through bombing raids and accidents of war. This is their story.

The story takes place before the horrors of 9/11, but the simmering resentments existing among young Saudi males have already been recognized by the authorities, who seem powerless to prevent an outpouring of loathing for the patrician government. Your Friday, My Sunday takes place in a time when young Saudi males are going to fight the Russians in Afghanistan (Osama bin Laden being among them). Yet oil revenues by the end of the 1980s have peaked such that the ruling family of Saudi Arabia decides to further expand its health-care portfolio and provide Western-standard infrastructure at any price, at the highest speed, and as the story shows, with little eye for detail. They import Western ...

Edelbrock

Tom Madigan, with foreword by Benny Parson, NASCAR champion. The Edelbrock Corporation emerged from a young mechanic's dream in Southern California during the earliest years of the American love affair with the automobile. One of the central figures of the hot rod culture that began before World War II and blossomed after the war, Vic Edelbrock, Sr. built his company around a simple philosophy: never overextend yourself, and never put your name on a product that hasn't been tested and proven true. When Vic Edelbrock, Jr. took over after his father's death, he stayed true to the family philosophy while incorporating progressive marketing plans to grow the company into a corporate giant. It is...

The oldest and most renowned Dutch university, Leiden was an attractive proposition for travelling foreign students in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Alongside offering an excellent academic program and outstanding facilities, Leiden was also able to cater to the desires of noble students providing various extra-curricular activities. Leiden was the most popular continental university among English students, and this book investigates the 831 English students who studied there between 1575 and 1650. The preference of English students for Leiden was, on the one hand, related to close Anglo-Dutch relations of the period, and these are investigated with respect to politics, economy, ...

A great little sports car race took place on an island in Lake Erie, offshore of Sandusky, Ohio. The drivers came on ferry boats to compete for silver cups in an age when there were no sponsors and no prize money. The drivers were car salesmen, stock brokers, engineers, printers, etc. Often, the cars they raced were those they drove as daily transportation: MGs, Porsches, Triumphs, Alfas and others. In this well-illustrated history (full color throughout the ebook edition), drivers, officials, mechanics and spectators share their stories. The text paints a vivid picture of the sports car racing scene in post-war America.
