Hibernian

[CDATA[Hibernian Football Club, founded by a group of Edinburgh-based Irishmen and Irish descendents, was born in the Cowgate area of the city in 1875. A team of the people, its long history, heritage and rise to fame has created a tradition and influence that helped shape the game as we know it today. In Hibernian: The Life and Times of a Famous Football Club, Tom Wright looks at Edinburgh's Hibernian Football club from its birth in 1875 to the present day. An anecdotal and personal journey, this volume highlights the many challenges, and lows and highs experienced by the team and its dedicated fans over the last 142 years; exploring the events that shaped the club from both World Wars, Hibs' 'Famous Five' days, the European Cup and the Scottish Cup win in 2016.]]

End to End Stuff

"When was an England versus Germany match scheduled for the anniversary of Hitler's birthday? hich is the only club to have scored and conceded 100 goals in a season? id you know that Bobby Moore's middle name was Chelsea? ho was the last person to score on his debut for England - but never play for his country again? an you name the 12 players to have won the league title with two different clubs? The answers to all these questions, and a thousand more besides, can be found - where else? - in End to End Stuff- The Essential Football Book. With 66 chapters (there wasn't room for 1966) covering everything from balls to caps, blunders and coincidences, strips, club songs and even the weather, Les Scott tells the history of the game through a winning combination of anecdotes, facts, quotes and statistics. With sections devoted to the history of domestic league and cup competitions, as well as major European and international trophies (not to mention the unwritten laws of football, what happened to Tunji Banjo, and why 3,964 is the World Cup's magic number), End to End Stuff is a treasure trove of information. Celtic Football Club’s story is laced with drama and excitement, featuring a host of colourful individuals and a social history matched by few, if any, football clubs. In Celtic: Pride and Passion, Lisbon Lion Jim Craig and Pat Woods, a historian of the club, take a fresh look at several lesser-known episodes in Celtic’s history, including: the fascinating link between Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show and a dramatic Ne’erday match at Celtic Park; the unforgettable night the ‘playboy of the Eastern world’ lit up Parkhead with a performance that helped to sow the seeds for a revolution at the club; the remarkable story of a trophy that was such a source of friction that the club kept it locked in a safe; and the pivotal year in which the rivalry between Celtic and Rangers took on a darker hue. They also recount the revealing story, told through the eyes of the European press, of how Celtic captivated a continent in the annus mirabilis of 1967. Celtic: Pride and Passion is a book that no discerning fan of Celtic Football Club will want to be without.

Hibs Through and Through

On 21 May this year, Hibs made history by winning the Scottish Cup for the first time since 1902. It was a time of celebration when the supporters revelled in their victory and remembered the great heroes of the club. Eric Stevenson is one of those great heroes. When he was inducted into the Hibs Hall of Fame at Easter Road in 2012, Stevenson declared, 'This means everything to me. My uncle founded the Bonnyrigg Hibs supporters club in 1949–50 and I started going to games when I was seven'. This book traces Stevenson's fanatical interest in the club from a very young age, his time as a left-winger wearing the number eleven green and white jersey in the '60s, and the well-deserved recognition that he has gained today. Throughout his career, Stevenson also played for Hearts and Ayr United, but this story shows that ultimately he is truly Hibs Through and Through.
