John was the son of Peter Hegarty and Ellen Maloney. Abigail was born in 1799 and married John at the age of 24, in the village of Tallow, County of Waterford, Ireland in a Catholic church. They had at least 8 children. In 1852, they emigrated to Ontario, Canada. John died in 1877. Abigail died in 1879. Both were buried in a Catholic cemetery in Mitchell, Ontario, Canada. Descendants lived in Canada and elsewhere.
