A valuable addition to the Lecture Notes in Pure and Applied Mathematics series, this reference results from a conference held in St. Petersburg, Russia, in honor of Dr. Z. Borevich. This volume is mainly devoted to the contributions related to the European Science Foundation workshop, organized under the framework of noncommuntative geometry and i

Quantum Bounded Symmetric Domains

Quantum Bounded Symmetric Domains

Explores the basic theory of quantum bounded symmetric domains. The area became active in the late 1990s at a junction of noncommutative complex analysis and extensively developing theory of quantum groups. In a surprising advance of the theory of quantum bounded symmetric domains, it turned out that many classical problems admit elegant quantum analogs. Some of those are expounded in the book.

Algebraic Quotients. Torus Actions and Cohomology. The Adjoint Representation and the Adjoint Action

This is the second volume of the new subseries "Invariant Theory and Algebraic Transformation Groups". The aim of the survey by A. Bialynicki-Birula is to present the main trends and achievements of research in the theory of quotients by actions of algebraic groups. This theory contains geometric invariant theory with various applications to problems of moduli theory. The contribution by J. Carrell treats the subject of torus actions on algebraic varieties, giving a detailed exposition of many of the cohomological results one obtains from having a torus action with fixed points. Many examples, such as toric varieties and flag varieties, are discussed in detail. W.M. McGovern studies the actions of a semisimple Lie or algebraic group on its Lie algebra via the adjoint action and on itself via conjugation. His contribution focuses primarily on nilpotent orbits that have found the widest application to representation theory in the last thirty-five years.

Young Tableaux in Combinatorics, Invariant Theory, and Algebra: An Anthology of Recent Work is an anthology of papers on Young tableaux and their applications in combinatorics, invariant theory, and algebra. Topics covered include reverse plane partitions and tableau hook numbers; some partitions associated with a partially ordered set; frames and Baxter sequences; and Young diagrams and ideals of Pfaffians. Comprised of 16 chapters, this book begins by describing a probabilistic proof of a formula for the number f? of standard Young tableaux of a given shape f?. The reader is then introduced to the generating function of R. P. Stanley for reverse plane partitions on a tableau shape; an anal...
