Signe and Ane Gyllenberg Foundation's Art Collection
Signe and Ane Gyllenberg wanted to have beautiful pieces of art surrounding them, pieces that opened one?s view. Their collection is comprised of paintings, sculptures, graphic art, and other artworks that were done between 1920 and 1960. The couple wanted their collection to be available for viewing by the public and, therefore, gave it to the Signe and Ane Gyllenberg Foundation, to be maintained in the Villa Gyllenberg art museum. The art collection, the original furnishings of Signe and Ane?s home, and the beautiful nature of the surroundings form a harmonious ensemble.00The art collection of the Signe and Ane Gyllenberg Foundation includes Finnish art that is well represented by Isak Wacklin?s Portrait of a Man (1756) and Juhani Linnovara?s surrealistic paintings, done in the 1960s. The golden age of Finnish art and modernism is well represented also. Monet Hates Me
Available for a limited time, this artist’s book by renowned visual artist Tacita Dean explores her chance encounters with objects in the archives of the Getty Research Institute. As the Getty Research Institute artist in residence in 2014–15, Tacita Dean was asked to define a subject and identify a path of research. What she proposed instead was a project titled “The Importance of Objective Chance as a Tool of Research.” Her idea was to allow chance to be her guide. Dean researched randomly, picking out boxes from the collections without knowing their contents, meandering through objects and images from sources as varied as medieval alchemy books to twentieth-century artist letters. Monet Hates Me features reproductions of fifty artworks she created from Getty’s archival holdings along with enlightening texts that expand on her method of research and illustrate her encounters with the archives.
Gösta Diehl. Kubist, kolorist och kosmopolit
Gösta Diehl (1899?1964) ranks among Finland?s leading modernists. During a career spanning several decades, he experimented with many styles, ultimately achieving acclaim for his Cubist and colourist paintings. Diehl spent long sojourns in France, where he absorbed influences from French modernism. Multilingually gifted and cosmopolitan by nature, he forged personal links with the Continental modernists, which opened doors to new influences in Finnish art. His career peaked in the 1950s as a member of the acclaimed Prisma group of international modernists, whose work was characterized by the intense use of colour. This book is the first major biographical work chronicling the life and career of Gösta Diehl.
