Coral Reefs of the Gulf

Coral Reefs of the Gulf: Adaptation to Climatic Extremes is a complete review and reference for scientists, engineers and students concerned with the geology, biology or engineering aspects of coral reefs in the Middle East. It provides for the first time a complete review of both the geology and biology of all extant coral areas in the Gulf, the water body between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula. In summer, this area is the hottest sea with abundant coral growth on earth and already today exhibits a temperature that is predicted to occur across the topical ocean in 2100. Thus, by studying the Gulf today, much can be learned about tomorrow’s world and the capability of coral reefs to adapt ...

The New Fresh Seafood Buyer’s Guide

This book is a completely new edition of Fresh Seafood-The Commer cial Buyer's Guide, which was first published in 1984. There have been many changes in both product and the seafood business in the intervening years. About 70 percent of the material in this book is new, a tribute to the rapid pace of change throughout the industry. The subject of this book is fresh seafood. "Fresh" is defined as product handled under refrigeration (mechanical or ice) from har vester to consumer. This excludes frozen product, canned product and other shelf-stable packaging. Frozen seafoods are covered in the companion volume, The New Frozen Seafood Handbook. Many prod ucts are, of course, handled in both refr...

Field Guide to Marine Fishes of Tropical Australia

This phenomenally successful guide to the wealth and variety of fish in Australia’s tropical waters — including the Great Barrier Reef — and south-east Asia has been updated and expanded. The book has sold more than 20,000 copies in its previous editions, and is an invaluable reference for divers and anglers, to both scientists and the lay person; to everyone with an interest in our remarkable tropical fish. Full colour illustrations by leading Australian marine artists, Roger Swainton and Jill Ruse, make identification easy. The author has also included an edibility guide.

The Working Group on Fisheries for Small Pelagic Fish (WGSP) reviewed the state of knowledge on the main fisheries harvesting small pelagic fish in the Southwest Indian Ocean (SWIO) region, identified the species to be analysed in greater detail by the Working Group and carried out a Productivity-Susceptibility Analysis (PSA) of ten Small Pelagic fish stocks from the region. A total of 38 species of small pelagic fish were identified for future work of the Working Group. Of the ten (10) stocks analysed using the Productivity-Susceptibility Analysis, eight (8) were scored as being at low risk, while two (2) scored as medium risk. The WGSP will continue working by correspondence during the intersessional period, until the second meeting, to be held during the first semestre of 2021.
