Das Buch beschreibt die Entwicklung der Medizinischen Fakult{t der Universit{t Freiburg i.Br. vor dem Hintergrund der allgemeinen Sozial- und Wissenschaftsgeschichte bis in die neueste Zeit. Es wird der Versuch gemacht, die Besonder- heit der Fakult{t als Institution in den Vordergrund zu stellen und mit der Darstellung der einzelnen Disziplinen und ihrer Vertreter zu verbinden. Am Beispiel einer der klassischen Medizinischen Fakult{ten soll damit ein Beitrag zur allgemeinen Universit{tsgeschichte geleistet werden, wie auch zur strukturellen Problematik der medizinischen Lehre, Forschung und Krankenversorgung.
