Carol Cooke is a paralympian in cycling and won two gold medals in Rio in 2016. This is her story. Carol shares her secrets to success.
Carol Cooke thought her destiny was decided when she followed in the footsteps of her grandfather, father and mother and joined the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force. An exciting career followed until one case got the better of her and she decided to take a year off. That year off led her down another path and into a world she could never have foreseen for herself. Travelling from one side of the world across to the other and finding love, heartbreak, illness and Paralympic gold. Through the life challenges Cooke faced, and the lessons learned from her family and her own policing career, she was able to move forward with resilience, integrity and compassion. The Force Within is the inspiring story of her courageous adventure.

In a century torn by violent civil uprisings, civilian bombings, and genocides, war has been an immediate experience for both soldiers and civilians, for both women and men. But has this reality changed our long-held images of the roles women and men play in war, or the emotions we attach to violence, or what we think war can accomplish? This provocative collection addresses such questions in exploring male and female experiences of war--from World War I, to Vietnam, to wars in Latin America and the Middle East--and how this experience has been articulated in literature, film and drama, history, psychology, and philosophy. Together these essays reveal a myth of war that has been upheld throu...

A perfect atmospheric thriller for this Halloween . . .
Embroidery is much more than killing time. it is a traditional handicraft but at its best it is art. A poet is said to embroider the truth, while embroidery enriches the cloth. This book combines beautiful embroidery ideas complemented by haikus written by the author's brother. Rather than being just a stitch encyclopaedia, it is a journey using thread and fresh ideas to decorate your cloth.
