Thermodynamic properties of liquid cesium-mercury solutions.
A spectrographic-photometric procedure has been developed for the determination of cesium in plutonium metal.
The use of liquid alkali metals as a heat transfer medium or motive fluid for power conversion systems has increased significantly in recent years and has created new demands in the area of liquid alkali metal handling technology. Contaminants existing in liquid alkali metal systems may exert deleterious effects on thermophysical properties, corrosivity and handlin characteristics. This paper presents an analytical study on the physicochemical and kinetic aspects of liquid cesium purification, employing the hot gettering technique. The properties and various aspects of handling sodium, potassium, rubidium and cesium are reviewed. Typical sources of contamination are discussed. (Author).
