Beginning with volume 41 (1979), the University of Texas Press became the publisher of the Handbook of Latin American Studies, the most comprehensive annual bibliography in the field. Compiled by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress and annotated by a corps of more than 130 specialists in various disciplines, the Handbook alternates from year to year between social sciences and humanities. The Handbook annotates works on Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and the Guianas, Spanish South America, and Brazil, as well as materials covering Latin America as a whole. Most of the subsections are preceded by introductory essays that serve as biannual evaluations of the literature and research under way in specialized areas. The Handbook of Latin American Studies is the oldest continuing reference work in the field. Katherine D. McCann is acting editor for this volume. El Diccionario biográfico e histórico de la Conquista y Resistencia Indígena del Zulia, es el inicio de un amplio proyecto de investigación, sobre la redacción de un exhaustivo Diccionario biográfico e histórico del Zulia, que intentaría reunir, en breves entradas, los datos fundamentales de la vida y las realizaciones de los hombres y mujeres, que con su voluntad y esfuerzo, han contribuido, de las más diversas maneras, a construir y hacer grande y progresista a la región zuliana y por ende, a Venezuela. Ese era un viejo sueño de mi protector y amigo, el doctor Ángel Emiro Govea, médico altruista, político honesto y orador destacado, en cuya memoria siempre presente, se desea emprender esa titánica tarea, tan necesaria no solo como rescate de la memoria de un pueblo, sino como material didáctico para la educación y para el conocimiento de las presentes y futuras generaciones de zulianos y de venezolanos. Ojala, que alguna institución, pública o privada, preocupada por el rescate de nuestro auténtico patrimonio histórico, quisiera asumir el patrocinio de ese trascendente proyecto biográfico regional.
