This volume contains some of the more controversial and personal works produced by Peter Turrini, who has come to be recognized today as one of the leading Austrian dramatists. His first drama, Shooting Rats, was written in 1967, when Turrini, fed up with life as an advertising copy editor, fled into "exile" on an isolated Greek island. The play, with its theme of alienation from the consumer society, was an instant success and has since appeared on stages throughout Europe. Infanticide (1972) continues the theme of alienation, intensified to the point of murder. Turrini explores the heart of an unfortunate young woman who paradoxically is driven to kill her infant child in order to feel lik...

This, its fourth iteration (following 1977, 1987 and 1997), invites artists from all over the world--many of whom are returning to the city and the event--to create new site-specific works. Thus Michael Asher brings back his trailer and parks in sites he first sussed out in 1977, continuing to explore the conflicts between rigid form and mobile space, and to document the dramatic transformation of the urban environment over four decades. Guy Ben-Ner equips bicycles with screens and places them around the city; by pedaling, participants control the speed and direction of a film of the artist doing the same. Guil...
In this age of globalization, a need for a communicative explanation of personal and group positions also motivates Christians to describe more precisely their identity in relation to other actors in society. What makes a Christian a Christian? What is specifically Christian in social acions or political calling? Is there a difference between Christian justice and justice in general – and the way Christians deal with justice? What is our calling as Christians? The contributions in this volume are the result of the 6th biannual IRTI conference in Seoul 2005 on this theme.
