This volume contains the texts from the symposium on the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of the M.A. Programme Intercultural Theology. The contributions address the challenges and consequences of an intercultural approach in academics as well as in the churches and in society. Since globalisation has significantly changed the face of contemporary Christianity in the 21st century, the task of doing theology has become more complex. The cultural, geographic and denominational varieties of Christianity worldwide challenge the traditional Western face of academic Christian theology and demand new and global forms of theological thinking across lines. Intercultural Theology seeks to embrace these dynamics with a constructive dialogue, opening up new spaces of collaborative thinking and academic reflection.

Anlässlich des 60. Geburtstages von Martin Tamcke, Ökumeniker und Spezialist für den christlichen Orient an der Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, fand ein internationales Symposium zu Freundschaft, Dialog und Partnerschaft statt. Neben persönlich gehaltenen Reden, die erahnen lassen, in welcher Atmosphäre auf diesem Symposium gearbeitet wurde, lieferten anerkannte Wissenschaftler aus aller Welt wichtige Beiträge zum Thema. Zusammengehalten werden diese auch, da sie bewusst die in Tamckes Werk und Wirken wesentlichen Themen in je eigener Weise aufzunehmen versuchen.
Biblical Women in Patristic Reception / Biblische Frauen in patristischer Rezeption
Biblische Frauen spielen eine bedeutende Rolle in verschiedenen Genres patristischen Schrifttums und in rabbinischen Texten: Etwa als Vorbilder für Frauen, manchmal auch für Männer, als Repräsentantinnen bestimmter Tugenden oder Laster, als Autoritäten in Streitfragen, als Ausgangspunkt für bestimmte Praktiken. Die Bilder, die die (fast immer männlichen) Autoren von den biblischen Frauen zeichnen, spiegeln stets den zeitgenössischen sozialen, kulturellen und religiösen Kontext wider, besonders im Hinblick auf weit verbreitete antike Vorstellungen über Frauen und über das Verhältnis der Geschlechter zueinander. Der Sammelband fragt nach der Präsenz und Sichtbarkeit bzw. Hörbarkeit und nach dem Bild biblischer Frauen in den spätantiken Texten. Er enthält Beiträge zu Rahab, zur ägyptischen Frau des Salomo, zur Geliebten des Hoheliedes, zu Judit, den vier Töchtern des Philippus und den Myrophoren der Evangelien, die Salben zu Jesu Grab bringen, und untersucht die Rezeption dieser biblischen Frauen in verschiedenen patristischen und rabbinischen Texten.

This other world differs profoundly from our contemporary universe. It is a world bound intrinsically to the region of Bessarabia, to its network of multiethnic relations and to the time in 1940 of resettlement to the German Reich.
The First World War as a Turning Point / Wendezeit Weltkrieg
The First World War led to a fundamental reorganization of international relations. This had a profound impact on churches and mission agencies and their ecumenical networks. European Christianity was increasingly questioned. The shock was all the greater since the war alliances were formed without taking religious orientation into consideration. This volume examines the impact of the war on church and mission especially in Africa and Asia. The contributions provide a wide scope of historical analyses with a focus on the Hermannsburg Mission. The symposium was organized by the Ludwig-Harms-Kuratorium and the Fachhochschule für Interkulturelle Theologie Hermannsburg in 2018.
500 Jahre der Reformation in der Slowakei
Die Theologie Martin Luthers wurde eine inspirierende Basis für die östliche Peripherie der deutschen Reformation im Gebiet der heutigen Slowakei. So rief die wittenbergische Reformation eine spezifische Entwicklung der religiös-politischen Ereignisse in Oberungarn hervor. Der sich enorm verbreitende Protestantismus wurde seitens der habsburgischen Rekatholisierung jedoch systematisch unterdrückt. Die einzelnen Beiträge reflektieren nicht nur die Reformationsgeschichte in Oberungarn, sondern sie beschäftigen sich auch mit der wittenbergischen Hermeneutik, philosophischen Theologie und mit der durch die Reformation geprägten Pädagogik.
Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity in a Global Context
Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity constitutes an exceptional religious tradition flourishing in sub-Saharan Africa already since late antiquity. The volume places Ethiopian Orthodoxy into a global context and explores the various ways in which it has been interconnected with the wider Christian world from the Aksumite period until today. By highlighting the formative role of both wide-ranging translocal religious interactions as well as disruptions thereof, the contributors challenge the perception of this African Christian tradition as being largely isolated in the course of its history. Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity in a Global Context: Entanglements and Disconnections offers a new perspective on the Horn of Africa’s Christian past and reclaims its place on the map of global Christianity.
Thinking about Christian Life in the Turmoil Times of the Middle East
"Studies in the Middle East" is a one-year programme at the Near East School of Theology in Beirut (NEST). In honour of its 20th anniversary, academics and teachers from the NEST and from Germany met at Georg-August University in Göttingen and in the nearby Coptic Orthodox Monastery in Höxter-Brenkhausen to discuss the current situation in the Middle East and possible ways to initiate a spiritual new beginning in this crisis and war-ridden region. The present volume offers various contributions that were made on the subject.
