The collection of Winchester College includes more than 80 Greek vases which are catalogued here, some published for the first time. This corpus includes Attic Geometric, Black Figure, Red Figure, White Ground and Black Glaze vases, plus Corinthian, Boeotian, Etruscan, Cypriot, Minoan, Mycenaean vases, and many more besides. The descriptions are provided by John Falconer whilst the attributions, bibliographies and drawings are given by Thomas Mannack.
This is the Museum’s first volume in the CVA series and is devoted to the Attic black-figure ware from the Molly and Walter Bareiss collection. Amphorae, neck-amphorae, kraters, stamnoi, hydriai, and fragments are profiled by type and chronology, and many are beautifully reproduced on full page plates.
The Museum's Apulian, Lucanian, Campanian, Sicilian, and Paestan red-figure vases are discussed in this edition of Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum. The vases are arranged by shape and documented by photographs and profile drawings. The unbound plates offer easy reference and comparison. The text includes detailed descriptions and complete bibliographies.
