“Cantemos ahora por la Navidad” es una colección de historias cortas inspiradas por villancicos o canciones navideñas. He sido músico toda la vida y amo la época de advenimiento de la Navidad y desempolvarles villancicos a mis viejos amigos. Tuve la ocurrencia de crear una antología mientras participaba en el Concierto Navideño de Diciembre de 2011 y me puse a trabajar en Enero de 2012 hasta hacerlo una realidad. Mucho del espíritu navideño tiene que ver con dar y servir a otros. Como tal, todo en esta antología, desde la edición, impresión y diseño de la pasta, hasta la misma redacción fue hecha con toda la bondad de los corazones de todos los que se involucraron en labor. La antología está acomodada al estilo de un “calendario de adviento”, en el que hay una historia nueva para cada día de Diciembre hasta el día de la Navidad. Una historia particularmente larga se dividió en múltiples secciones para ser leída a lo largo de varios días. Las historias fueron contribuciones autores a lo ancho del país, y todas las ganancias de esta antología serán entregadas a la Sociedad Nacional de Síndrome Down, en honor a mi hijo, Bryson.

Activation and Suppression of Plant Immunity
Plants constantly face many kinds of abiotic and biotic stresses. One of the major threats is from many plant fungal, oomycete, viral, bacterial and nematode pathogens. Plant diseases caused by these pathogens reduce crop yield by 10-15% worldwide every year. Throughout the human history, plant diseases are responsible for many famines including the infamous Irish Potato Famine. Besides the negative impact on the yield, the quality of the infected crop will be adversely affected and the toxins produced by plant pathogens pose threat to human health. During the co-evolution between plants and pathogens, plants developed elegant defense system against pathogen infection and plant pathogens deploy a variety of strategies to suppress plant innate immunity. A deeper understanding the molecular mechanisms on the activation of plant defense in plants and suppression of plant defense by plant pathogens will be crucial to develop effective ways to minimize the detrimental effects from plant diseases on human beings. This Research Topic aims to increase our understanding on the molecular interactions between plants and pathogens.
Exploring Universal Basic Income
Universal basic income (UBI) is emerging as one of the most hotly debated issues in development and social protection policy. But what are the features of UBI? What is it meant to achieve? How do we know, and what don’t we know, about its performance? What does it take to implement it in practice? Drawing from global evidence, literature, and survey data, this volume provides a framework to elucidate issues and trade-offs in UBI with a view to help inform choices around its appropriateness and feasibility in different contexts. Specifically, the book examines how UBI differs from or complements other social assistance programs in terms of objectives, coverage, incidence, adequacy, incentives, effects on poverty and inequality, financing, political economy, and implementation.
