The French Jesuit Henri de Lubac (1896-1991) fought in the First World War yet lived to see the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe. As a Jesuit novice, he was a political exile, completing most of his formation overseas due to the restrictions imposed by the Third Republic. During World War II, he worked undercover to motivate spiritual resistance to Nazism, placing himself in grave danger.
