A organização do pensamento clínico na psicoterapia
O profissional que se inicia nos atendimentos psicoterapêuticos geralmente tem um cabedal de conhecimentos teóricos e uma relativa prática clínica, mas ele se indaga sobre o que o ajudaria a melhor formular pensamentos clínicos significativos para cada paciente individual. Foi com a intenção de dar respostas a essa questão que um grupo de psicoterapeutas e pesquisadores elaborou concepções teóricas e práticas a respeito de um Modelo Metodológico aplicável à psicoterapia. O modelo é composto de fatores básicos encontrados com frequência nos atendimentos clínicos. Também, são apresentadas as principais atitudes requeridas do profissional, além de indicações sobre os cuidados necessários em relação à sua interioridade. O livro não se limita ao contexto da psicoterapia psicodinâmica. Ele abrange psicoterapias em geral, especialmente sob as abordagens fenomenológico-existenciais, junguianas, cognitivo-comportamentais e psicanalíticas. Assim, traz elementos para uma composição e uma síntese científicas bastante amplas. Não se trata de mais uma teoria, e sim de uma focalização metodológica de conjunto sobre os dados clínicos.

Natural Symbols
First printed in 1970, Natural Symbols is Douglas' most controversial work. It represents a work of anthropology in its widest sense, exploring themes such as the social meaning of natural symbols and the image of the body in society. This work focuses on the ways in which cultures select natural symbols from the body and how every natural symbol carries a social meaning. She also introduces her grid/group theory, which she sees as a way of keeping together what the social sciences divide and separate. Bringing anthropology in to the realm of religion, Douglas enters into the ongoing debate in religious circles surrounding meaning and ritual. The book not only provides a clear explanation to four distinct attitudes to religion, but also defends hierarchical forms of religious organization and attempts to retain a balanced judgement between fundamentalism and established religion. Douglas has since extensively refined the grid/group theory and has applied it to consumer behaviour, labour movements and political parties.
