The main topic of this book is the sudy of the interaction between two major subjects of modern mathematics, namely, the theory of Lie groups with its specific methods and ways of thinking on the one hand and complex analysis with all its analytic, algebraic and geometric aspects. More specifically, the author concentrates on the double role of Lie groups in complex analysis, namely, as groups of biholomorphic self-made of certain complex analytic objects on the one hand and as a special class of complex manifolds with an additional strong structure on the other hand. The book starts from the basics of this subject and introduces the reader into many fields of recent research.
Lie Groups: Structures, Actions, and Representations, In Honor of Joseph A. Wolf on the Occasion of his 75th Birthday consists of invited expository and research articles on new developments arising from Wolf's profound contributions to mathematics. Due to Professor Wolf’s broad interests, outstanding mathematicians and scholars in a wide spectrum of mathematical fields contributed to the volume. The papers in this volume cover a wide variety of topics in differential geometry, general relativity, and partial differential equations. In addition, there are several articles dealing with various aspects of Lie groups and mathematics physics. Taken together, the articles provide the reader with a panorama of activity in general relativity and partial differential equations, drawn by a number of leading figures in the field. The companion volume (Contemporary Mathematics, Volume 553) is devoted to function theory and optimization.

The book contains survey and research articles devoted mainly to geometry and harmonic analysis of symmetric spaces and to corresponding aspects of group representation theory. The volume is dedicated to the memory of Russian mathematician, F. I. Karpelevich (1927-2000). Of particular interest are the survey articles by Sawyer on the Abel transform on noncompact Riemannian symmetric spaces, and by Anker and Ostellari on estimates for heat kernels on such spaces, as well as thearticle by Bernstein and Gindikin on integral geometry for families of curves. There are also many research papers on topics of current interest. The book is suitable for graduate students and research mathematicians interested in harmonic analysis and representation theory.
In this monograph the author presents a coherent exposition of recent results on complete characterization of Kobayashi-hyperbolic manifolds with high-dimensional groups of holomorphic automorphisms. These classification results can be viewed as complex-geometric analogues of those known for Riemannian manifolds with high-dimensional isotropy groups that were extensively studied in the 1950s-70s.
