This book is a collection of fictional tales involving young people and old people, rich and poor, male and female in situations that find a parallel in life, and other tales that delve into the fantastic. Why is an old man found dead fully dressed in his best clothes in a shopping mall? How does a young boy retrieve his baseball bat from a bully? How does Camelot really end? What is a parallel universe? Who is the mysterious child at the door during a storm? Where did the man's sock and shorts come from in Sandy's sewer system, and what is a Drain Surgeon? There's even a huge fish that no one is allowed to catch and another fish that is caught entrapped in a human skull.

This book contains a collection of fictional short stories and non-fiction articles compiled over a number of years. The fiction is light and frequently humorous, while the articles tend to be of a more serious nature. Subjects range from the used car salesman to a story on weight that segues into a short discussion on orbital mechanics. A couple of poems are even included. I hope that the large variety included will provide some entertainment for all.
Change of Heart
While driving home from his law office in a rainstorm, Roger Whitwood brushes a drunk in the road. As he drives the soaked man to a shelter, he learns Bert has his daughter's blood type. Later, Roger is forced to look Bert up again to get blood when his daughter is in a serious auto accident. A friendship develops between Bert and Roger's family that includes Tad, a boy Bert has been watching over on the streets. At Roger's urging, Bert begins working to restore his self-respect and get off the street. Roger's point of view is altered also, and he begins to take pro bono cases to help people like Bert. Roger's daughter, Sharon, sees a need to help others also. Her attempt to befriend a woman and her small children gets her kidnapped. Bert uses his forgotten skills as a private investigator to find Sharon and arrange her rescue, but is seriously wounded during the rescue. His recovery, assisted by his landlady, results in a romantic relationship. Bert would like to adopt Tad, and so would Roger and his family, but, when Tad's mother shows up unexpectedly, his life is turned into turmoil. Where will Tad end up?

Dave Foster, Chief Engineer for Burton Aircraft, has a problem. Three of Burton's new Aerostar 800 commercial jets have crashed recently shortly after takeoff from Denver. His engineers can't find a design flaw, and the FAA has concluded the crashes resulted from unusual weather conditions, but Dave has doubts since, in all three cases, a wing apparently came off before the plane crashed. His investigation leads to an attempt on his life, resulting in extensive injuries and a lengthy period in a coma. One of his engineers is mysteriously murdered. Remembrances a Tripartite Memoir
This memoir is organized in three parts. The first part is autobiographical, covering my youth in the Midwest, service in the Army Air Corps during WWII, and my college years. I married while in college, and spent the next fifty years working in highly technical engineering areas while raising, with my wife, five children, pursuing an advanced degree, and teaching part time. The second part is a more detailed description of my engineering career in two very technical fields. I worked on improving the atomic bomb at Los Alamos and in the emerging technology of inertial navigation and radar in California. The third part describes my part time teaching at the college level, substitute teaching at the high school level, and tutoring at the elementary through college levels.
