Reconstruction of the Genealogy of the Wise Family of the Congarees
"The focus of this Wise research is on the Wise family that lived in the vicinity of Lower Lexington County and that part of Lexington and Orangeburg counties that became Calhoun County in 1908. This family lived near and above the Congaree River as opposed to the Wise/Wyse family of the Dutch Fork and the Saluda River. The early name for the settlement along the Congaree River was the Congarees"—Pref., p. ii.

Donnie and Jean was a time of great transition for our nation, one in which there was no television, and radio and Hollywood were the main sources of both entertainment and news defining what would later be called "The Great Generation." Comic books and the funny papers were war oriented and children were ready to defend America against all invaders; while adults fought the war, children played at war. Donnie and Jean is more than a story of two twelve year old children meeting and beginning to learn what it is to love; they were born into a generation that epitomized the best of what America was during that era when the leaders of America were trusted, when teachers and police were the friends of children. In many ways it was an age of innocence lost and not to be recovered, but recalled here in the story of these two children.
The Westmorelands
James Westmoreland (b.1635) came to America in 1652. He was the son of Thomas Westmorland of Westmorland County, England and a descendent of the Earls of Westmorland who were of the House of Neville. James arrived first in Boston but eventually settled in Virginia. Descendants moved to North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia during the 18th century and to Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas and Texas during the 19th century. Descendants currently reside throughout the United States. Descendant Olin Emmett Westmoreland (1864-1950), born in South Carolina, was the grandfather of the author. Olin married Palmyra Augusta Jones (1871-1950) in 1899. They were the parents of eleven children.
