Functional Integration

The idea of the workshop on Functional Integration, Theory and Applications, held in Louvain-Ia-Neuve from November 6 to 9 1979, was to put in close and informal contact, during a few days, active workers in the field. There is no doubt now that functional integration is a tool that is being applied in all branches of modern physics. Since the earlier works of Dirac and Feynman enormous progress has been made, but unfortunately we lack still a unifying and rigo rous mathematical framework to account for all the situations in which one is interested. We are then in presence of a rapid ly changing field in which new achievements, proposals, and points of view are the normal pattern. Considering this state of affairs we have decided to order the articles starting from the more fundamental and ambitious from the point of view of mathematical rigour, followed by ar ticles in which the main interest is the application to con crete physical situations. It is obvious that this ordering should not be taken too seriously since in many cases there will be an interplay of both objects.

20th Century Physics

In this important volume, major events and personalities of 20th century physics are portrayed through recollections and historiographical works of one of the most prominent figures of European science. A former student of Enrico Fermi, and a leading personality of physical research and science policy in postwar Italy, Edoardo Amaldi devoted part of his career to documenting, both as witness and as historian, some significant moments of 20th century science. The focus of the book is on the European scene, ranging from nuclear research in Rome in the 1930s to particle physics at CERN, and includes biographies of physicists such as Ettore Majorana, Bruno Touschek and Fritz Houtermans.Edoardo A...

In recent years, a considerable amount of effort has been devoted, both in industry and academia, towards the recycling and reuse of materials. Most nations are now trying to reduce the amount of waste materials, through the proper recycling of materials.Re-Use and Recycling of Materials will help readers to understand the current status in the field of waste management, as well as what research is taking place to deal with such issues.Technical topics discussed in the book include:  Municipal solid waste management Recycling of WEEE Waste to industrially important product like lignin and cellulose Recycling of agriculture waste Polymer and plastic recycling

Current Topics in Elementary Particle Physics

This volume contains the contributions to the INTERNATIONAL SUMMER INSTITUTE ON THEORETICAL PHYSICS 1980 held from September 1st to September 12th in Bad Honnef, Germany. This Institute was organized by Wuppertal University. It was the eleventh in a series of Summer Schools on particle physics carried out by German Universities. The Institute was aimed to review the present status of gauge theories in elementary particle physics, with emphasis both on the phenomenological and formal aspects. The first part of the volume covers the recent progress in the development of perturbative methods both in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and flavor dynamics (QFD). Applications to available data from elec...

Lepton Physics At Cern And Frascati

This reprint volume is in honour of one of the leaders of Italian high-energy physics, Antonino Zichichi, who is now 65 years old. It covers the first part of his activity: the years 1959-1976, probably the most intense of his scientific career. The volume includes reprints of articles and of some published laboratory reports, documenting the extraordinary constancy of Zichichi in a scientific programme which spanned more than a decade and laid the foundations for the subsequent discovery by M Perl of the heavy lepton, HL (now called τ), first proposed and searched for at CERN and Frascati by Zichichi in the early sixties.
