Graphic Works of Max Klinger

  • Categories: Art

These 74 plates reproduce four of Klinger's complete cycles: Eve and the Future; A Glove; A Love; and On Death, Part I; plus many other illustrations. Reproduced directly from original portfolio editions, the etchings foreshadow the Surrealist movement with fantasies about love and death, sexual psychoses, fetish obsessions, and bizarre nightmares.

Výpravná umělecká monografie Félicien Rops: enfant terrible dekadence je věnována životu a umělecké tvorbě jednoho z hlavních představitelů evropské výtvarné dekadence a symbolismu. Félicien Rops (1833–1898) byl belgický malíř, grafik a ilustrátor, jehož výtvarná tvorba výrazně ovlivnila uměleckou prezentaci a interpretaci smyslné krásy ženského těla, lidské sexuality a temných stránek lidské duše. Publikace synteticky zpracovává Ropsovy životní osudy a komplexně analyzuje jeho volnou, grafickou, časopiseckou a knižní ilustrační tvorbu. Publikace Félicien Rops: enfant terrible dekadence je první původní českou uměleckou monografií, která život a dílo tohoto umělce prezentuje v kontextu symbolismu a dekadence. Prostřednictvím pečlivých analýz a reprezentativního obrazového doprovodu se čtenář může ponořit do Ropsova světa, v němž je krása obnaženého ženského těla zasazena do tabuizovaných sexuálních, literárních i sociálních souvislostí.

The Wilhelmine Empire?s opening decades (1870s - 1880s) were crucial transitional years in the development of German modernism, both politically and culturally. Here Marsha Morton argues that no artist represented the shift from tradition to unsettling innovation more compellingly than Max Klinger. The author examines Klinger?s early prints and drawings within the context of intellectual and material transformations in Wilhelmine society through an interdisciplinary approach that encompasses Darwinism, ethnography, dreams and hypnosis, the literary Romantic grotesque, criminology, and the urban experience. His work, in advance of Expressionism, revealed the psychological and biological under...

Amish and Amish Mennonite Genealogies

This encyclopedia for Amish genealogists is certainly the most definitive, comprehensive, and scholarly work on Amish genealogy that has ever been attempted. It is easy to understand why it required years of meticulous record-keeping to cover so many families (144 different surnames up to 1850). Covers all known Amish in the first settlements in America and shows their lineage for several generations. (955pp. index. hardcover. Pequea Bruderschaft Library, revised edition 2007.)
