Computational Algebraic and Analytic Geometry
This volume contains the proceedings of three AMS Special Sessions on Computational Algebraic and Analytic Geometry for Low-Dimensional Varieties held January 8, 2007, in New Orleans, LA; January 6, 2009, in Washington, DC; and January 6, 2011, in New Orleans, LA. Algebraic, analytic, and geometric methods are used to study algebraic curves and Riemann surfaces from a variety of points of view. The object of the study is the same. The methods are different. The fact that a multitude of methods, stemming from very different mathematical cultures, can be used to study the same objects makes this area both fascinating and challenging.
Highlights of Astronomy
After the same pattern as the XIII th General Assembly of the International Astronom ical Union the present Volume of the Highlights in Astronomy contains the texts of the invited discourses given at the XIVth General Assembly held in Brighton, England, August 1970. It contains further the papers and discussion remarks presented at the six joint discussions, as well as the invited papers given at the special session on the Moon. In addition this Volume contains the papers given at the joint meeting of Commissions 24, 27, 30, 33 and 37 on RR Lyrae Stars. It goes without saying that the nearly hundred papers printed in this Volume represent only a minor part of all matter dealt with at the XIVth General Assembly of the Union; the many important discussions that took place in a few hundred commission meetings are not included. For short abstracts and reviews of these the reader is referred to Transactions of the International Astronomical Union XIVB. I wish to thank those who contributed to this Volume for the speed in submitting the manuscripts of their papers. This, together with the efficiency of the Publishers allowed for a rapid publication.
Recent Advances in Real Complexity and Computation
This volume is composed of six contributions derived from the lectures given during the UIMP-RSME Lluis Santalo Summer School on ``Recent Advances in Real Complexity and Computation'', held July 16-20, 2012, in Santander, Spain. The goal of this Summer School was to present some of the recent advances on Smale's 17th Problem: ``Can a zero of $n$ complex polynomial equations in $n$ unknowns be found approximately, on the average, in polynomial time with a uniform algorithm?'' These papers cover several aspects of this problem: from numerical to symbolic methods in polynomial equation solving, computational complexity aspects (both worse and average cases and both upper and lower complexity bounds) as well as aspects of the underlying geometry of the problem. Some of the contributions also deal with either real or multiple solutions solving.

Foundations of Software Technology and Theoretical Computer Science
This volume presents the proceedings of the 14th International Conference on the Foundations of Software Technology and Theoretical Computer Science, FST&TCS-14, held in Madras, India in December 1994. Besides the five invited papers by well-known researchers, it includes 31 full refereed research papers selected out of a total of 140 submissions. Graph Partitioning and Graph Clustering
Graph partitioning and graph clustering are ubiquitous subtasks in many applications where graphs play an important role. Generally speaking, both techniques aim at the identification of vertex subsets with many internal and few external edges. To name only a few, problems addressed by graph partitioning and graph clustering algorithms are: What are the communities within an (online) social network? How do I speed up a numerical simulation by mapping it efficiently onto a parallel computer? How must components be organized on a computer chip such that they can communicate efficiently with each other? What are the segments of a digital image? Which functions are certain genes (most likely) responsible for? The 10th DIMACS Implementation Challenge Workshop was devoted to determining realistic performance of algorithms where worst case analysis is overly pessimistic and probabilistic models are too unrealistic. Articles in the volume describe and analyze various experimental data with the goal of getting insight into realistic algorithm performance in situations where analysis fails.
