Esta obra es un estudio de la figura del Defensor del Pueblo español y de las correspondientes figuras autonómicas, tanto desde la óptica académica como de la realidad político-institucional de las mismas, recogiendo la cronología fundamental de cada órgano junto a la normativa constitucional y de desarrollo de cada uno de ellos. Se pretende acercar estas instituciones a los estudiosos del Derecho y de la Administración, justo cuando nos encontramos ante la inminente conmemoración del vigésimo quinto aniversario de la aprobación de una Constitución democrática con la que el pueblo español se definió territorial y competencialmente como un "Estado autonómico", vinculado a la defensa de los principios básicos definidores del Estado social y democrático de Derecho.
