This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Applied Parallel Computing, PARA 2002, held in Espoo, Finland, in June 2002. The 50 revised full papers presented together with nine keynote lectures were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in the proceedings. The papers are organized in topical sections on data mining and knowledge discovery, parallel program development, practical experience in parallel computing, computer science, numerical algorithms with hierarchical memory optimization, numerical methods and algorithms, cluster computing, grid and network technologies, and physics and applications.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed conference proceedings of the Third International Workshop on Risk Assessment and Risk-driven Testing, RISK 2015, held in conjunction with the OMG Technical Meeting in Berlin, Germany, in June 2015. The revised 8 full papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 12 submissions. This workshop addresses systematic approaches that combine risk assessment and testing. Also, the workshop was structured into the three sessions namely Risk Assessment, Risk and Development and Security Testing.

Hybrid threats represent one of the rising challenges to the safe and effective management of digital systems worldwide. The deliberate misuse or disruption of digital technologies has wide-ranging implications for fields as diverse as medicine, social media, and homeland security. Despite growing concern about cyber threats within many government agencies and international organizations, few strategies for the effective avoidance and management of threats or the prevention of the disruption they can cause have so far emerged. This book presents multiple perspectives based upon a NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme Advanced Research Workshop on ‘Resilience and Hybrid Threats’ h...

CONPAR 90 - VAPP IV

Parallel architectures are no longer pure research vehicles, as they were some years ago. There are now many commercial systems competing for market segments in scientific computing. The 1990s are likely to become the decade of parallel processing. CONPAR 90 - VAPP IV is the joint successor meeting of two highly successful international conference series in the field of vector and parallel processing. This volume contains the 79 papers presented at the conference. The various topics of the papers include hardware, software and application issues. Some of the session titles best reflect the contents: new models of computation, logic programming, large-grain data flow, interconnection networks...

The Evolution of Fault-Tolerant Computing

For the editors of this book, as well as for many other researchers in the area of fault-tolerant computing, Dr. William Caswell Carter is one of the key figures in the formation and development of this important field. We felt that the IFIP Working Group 10.4 at Baden, Austria, in June 1986, which coincided with an important step in Bill's career, was an appropriate occasion to honor Bill's contributions and achievements by organizing a one day "Symposium on the Evolution of Fault-Tolerant Computing" in the honor of William C. Carter. The Symposium, held on June 30, 1986, brought together a group of eminent scientists from all over the world to discuss the evolu tion, the state of the art, and the future perspectives of the field of fault-tolerant computing. Historic developments in academia and industry were presented by individuals who themselves have actively been involved in bringing them about. The Symposium proved to be a unique historic event and these Proceedings, which contain the final versions of the papers presented at Baden, are an authentic reference document.

This volume contains the post-proceedings of the Second International Workshop on Critical Information Infrastructure Security (CRITIS 2007), that was held during October 3–5, 2007 in Benalmadena-Costa (Malaga), Spain, and was hosted by the University of Malaga, Computer Science Department. In response to the 2007 call for papers, 75 papers were submitted. Each paper was reviewed by three members of the Program Committee, on the basis of significance, novelty, technical quality and critical infrastructures relevance of the work reported therein. At the end of the reviewing process, only 29 papers were selected for pres- tation. Revisions were not checked and the authors bear full responsib...
