Applied Parallel Computing. Industrial Computation and Optimization
Although the last decade has witnessed significant advances in control theory for finite and infinite dimensional systems, the stability and control of time-delay systems have not been fully investigated. Many problems exist in this field that are still unresolved, and there is a tendency for the numerical methods available either to be too general or too specific to be applied accurately across a range of problems. This monograph brings together the latest trends and new results in this field, with the aim of presenting methods covering a large range of techniques. Particular emphasis is placed on methods that can be directly applied to specific problems. The resulting book is one that will be of value to both researchers and practitioners.
Numerical Analysis and Its Applications
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First International Workshop on Numerical Analysis and Its Applications, WNAA'96, held in Rousse, Bulgaria, in June 1996. Machines that Learn to Play Games
The mind-set that has dominated the history of computer game playing relies on straightforward exploitation of the available computing power. The fact that a machine can explore millions of variations sooner than the sluggish human can wink an eye has inspired hopes that the mystery of intelligence can be cracked, or at least side-stepped, by sheer force. Decades of the steadily growing strength of computer programs have attested to the soundness of this approach. It is clear that deeper understanding can cut the amount of necessary calculations by orders of magnitude. The papers collected in this volume describe how to instill learning skills in game playing machines. Recent Advances in Parallel Virtual Machine and Message Passing Interface
Parallel Virtual Machine (PVM) and Message Passing Interface (MPI) are the most frequently used tools for programming according to the message passing paradigm, which is considered one of the best ways to develop parallel applications. This volume comprises 67 revised contributions presented at the Sixth European PVM/MPI Users' Group Meeting, which was held in Barcelona, Spain, 26-29 September 1999. The conference was organized by the Computer Science Department of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. This conference has been previously held in Liverpool, UK (1998) and Cracow, Poland (1997). The first three conferences were devoted to PVM and were held at the TU Munich, Germany (1996), ENS Lyon, France (1995), and University of Rome (1994). This conference has become a forum for users and developers of PVM, MPI, and other message passing environments. Interaction between those groups has proved to be very useful for developing new ideas in parallel computing and for applying some of those already existent to new practical fields.

This book presents the refereed proceedings of the Second International Workshop on Applied Parallel Computing in Physics, Chemistry and Engineering Science, PARA'95, held in Lyngby, Denmark, in August 1995.
