Faith in Hebrews

Victor (Sung Yul) Rhee argues that faith in Hebrews is both christologically and eschatologically oriented. In response to the assertion that faith in Hebrews is removed from Christ, he contends that the author of Hebrews portrays Jesus as both the model and object of faith. Rhee also maintains that the eschatological outlook in Hebrews is not the Hellenistic concept of visible and invisible reality, but the temporal orientation of present and future. The ethical aspects of faith must be interpreted within the context of Christology and eschatology to have a proper understanding of faith in Hebrews.

Leap of Faith

Faith has a new landlord… Faith Thompson never thought she’d see Chase Stevens return to the small town of Mercy. She certainly didn't expect him to come back as her new landlord, set on selling the home she's had for the past seven years. Faith never found the courage to tell Chase how she felt back when they were still friends, and she’s determined to keep those old feelings dead and buried now that he’s back. After all, it devastated her the last time he left, and Chase already has plans to leave again for his life in L.A. But the more time Faith spends with Chase, the harder it is to ignore the way she’s always felt about him. With potential heartbreak looming on the horizon, F...

John W. Thompson

John W. Thompson: Psychiatrist in the Shadow of the Holocaust is the biography of a doctor whose revulsion at Nazi human experiments prompted him to seek a humane basis for physician-patient relations. As a military-scientific intelligence officer in 1945, Thompson was the first to name "medical war crimes" as a category for prosecution. His investigations laid the groundwork for the Nuremberg medical trials and for the novel idea of "informed consent." Yet, Thompson has remained a little-known figure, despite his many scientific, literary, and religious connections. This book traces Thompson's life from his birth in Mexico, through his studies at Stanford, Edinburgh, and Harvard, and his se...

Faith and Knowledge

In an analysis of Christian faith, the author surveys scriptural, traditional and contemporary values, as well as modern philosophy. Reviews the thoughts of Stephen Toulmin, Hubert Dreyfus, Michael Polanyi, and Alasdair MacIntyre, showing that humans know reality only against the horizon of shared goals, language, and practice of community. Goes on to survey the New Testament, the major figures of the tradition) Augustine, Anselm, Aquinas, Luther, Kant, Schleiermacher, and Vatican I) and contemporary writers such as David Tracy and Stanley Hauerwas. Concludes that Christian faith is what grounds that community of interpretation known as the church. A helpful educational analysis for students and scholars of theology and philosophy.
