A história oficial registra que a Imprensa, no Brasil, começou com a chegada da Família Real portuguesa, em 13 de maio de 1808. A Gazeta do Rio de Janeiro, publicada pela Imprensa Régia, hoje Imprensa Nacional, foi o primeiro jornal de caráter oficial a circular por aqui.
