Jürgen Messensee, one of the leading artists of his generation, occupies an important position in the fields of painting and drawing in Austria. Nature is a model for Messensee's work, in particular the human figure, which he dissolves into emblematic forms with an expressive gesture. This publication presents the various stages of his oeuvre, and texts by Ingried Brugger and Florian Steininger probe its depths

Emigration, being lost in a strange world, the search for a new identity and longing for things and people that have been lost form the central topics in the work of the Albanian artist Adrian Paci. The volume presents his iconic works which have earned him a world reputation.00Adrian Paci emigrated from Albania to Italy with his family in the late 1990s. His own experience of flight, of giving up shared communities and his searching for a new identity have left their mark on his artistic work. Over the last 20 years expressive works have been created in the form of videos, photos, painting and sculptures which treat these existential experiences. The accompanying essays take up this politically topical subject and examine Paci?s oeuvre from various angles. An interview with the artist rounds out the volume.00Exhibition: Kunsthalle Krems, Austria (24.11.2019 - 23.02.2020).

Hans Op de Beeck

In The Cliff, Belgian artist Hans Op de Beeck's (born 1969) monochromatic photographs, site-specific sculptures, films, watercolors and ink drawings generate a melancholic narrative of different scenes--a sleeping girl floating on a raft, children playing marbles, a pair of lovers seated on a rock.

Hütte ranks among the leading protagonists of contemporary landscape photography; since the late 1970s, he has made a substantial contribution to the self-assured standing of photography in visual art.Like his fellow artists from the Düsseldorf School of Photography (Becher School) such as Candida Höfer, Andreas Gursky, or Thomas Struth, Hütte stands for the tableau character of the photographic image as an equivalent counterpart of painting.Axel Hütte's artistic work started out in the late 1970s with stark objectification of the reality of portraits as well as urban interiors and exteriors. In the early 1990s, the artist turned to considerably larger picture sizes, with landscape becoming his dominant theme. Unlike his earlier documentary pictures, the more recent large-format works have more of an imaginative and hallucinatory dimension.Accompanies the exhibition Axel Hütte: Imperial - Majestic - Magical, 11 Mar - 10 Jun 2018, Kunsthalle Krems, Austria.English and German text.

Abstract painting now!

"Abstraction is considered as one of the significant formal articulations of modern art, and it is most closely associated with painting. The relentless analysis of the medium, breaking it down to its zero point, by the avantgarde of the 1910s was followed by a recurrent burgeoning of nonrepresentational painting, particularly in Abstract Expressionism, Informalism, and Minimal Art.Aftermodern abstraction of the 1960s was informed by skepticism of painting and the very idea of creative authorship; this was counterpointed with sensuality and intuition in the postmodern phase from the 1980s.Featuring some sixty different art positions, this catalogue places the focus on the present-day international situation of the nonrepresentational easel painting, covering the full range of a still significant painterly practice.Featuring over 50 artists including: John M. Armleder, Wade Guyton, Peter Halley, Mary Heilmann, Callum Innes, Per Kirkeby, Imi Knoebel, Jason Martin, Sarah Morris, Sigmar Polke, Arnulf Rainer, Charline von Heyl, and Heimo Zobernig, among many others.Accompanies the exhibition, Abstract Painting Now! 2 July - 5 Nov 2017, Kunsthalle Krems, Austria.English and German text."

Ticket to the Moon

The Moon, often sung about, often painted, a subject of longing, a place with magic powers. The face of the Moon, light in the darkness of night, a poetic metaphor and, as it were, a visible projection of our desire to discover and investigate the world beyond our planet. The 'Sputnik Shock' of the 1950s was followed by a race by the two superpowers that were the Soviet Union and the USA. Which would be the first to land on the Moon? In the end, it was NASA that was to succeed in pulling off this coup in 1969. Neil Armstrong was the first man on the Moon and he planted an American flag there.2019 is the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing. Kunsthalle Krems is taking advantage of the occasio...

Ausstellung: Bank Austria Kunstforum, Wien 26.4.-15.7.2012

Landscape Photography Today

Landscape Photography Today

Landscape in my Mind covers the whole gamut of current positions in international landscape photography from Hamish Fulton to Andreas Gursky. Always a network of connections between man and nature landscape presents itself as a mental projection level of the perception of our surroundings - both close and distant. The works of art function as 'distorted' mirrors of perceived reality; they are not pure documentations produced at the click of a camera but hybrid tableaus between fiction and abstraction, metaphors of the view of the world and beyond. Typically, the photographs are 'pictures painted with the camera' in large format, which exude the self-confidence of New Photography.Blurring effe...
