LBGTQ+ Crime and Victimization
This book provides research and analysis on an understudied topic: the LBGTQ+ community as victims and offenders. Most publications focus on LBGTQ+ history and the community's movement towards equality and acceptance in society and in law. A focus on how the criminal justice system victimizes and marginalizes LBGTQ+ persons is needed. Consequently, this work includes chapters on members of the LBGTQ+ community who work in the criminal justice system, forced sexual orientation efforts, transgender legal concerns, LBGTQ+ persons who are arrested and imprisoned, and online dating hate crimes. International scholars provide their individual stories about being gay, bisexual or lesbian and working as a police or correctional officer. Other international contributors explain their research on crime and how the law and criminal justice community does not provide LBGTQ+ persons with protection or support as offenders or victims. Teaching Justice
Teaching Justice explores the role that teaching and learning in higher education can play in solving problems of social injustice. Examining a range of approaches to education, it considers the challenges that exist in teaching about justice, drawing on extensive empirical data gathered amongst college lecturers and professors, as well as the author's own experience. With an analysis of the strategies commonly used this book will shed light on the manner in which students can be engaged in activism and concerned with issues of social injustice. By overcoming apathy and engaging students with social problems, education can thus address matters of injustice and begin to effect change. Women Judges in Contemporary China
This study provides an up-to-date empirical account of Chinese female judges within the context of the Chinese legal system and wider society, revealing a deeper understanding of women in contemporary China. Shen explores the gendered nature of judging in post-Mao China by examining: who female judges are, what they do, and their position in relation to their profession.
