Integer Programming and Combinatorial Optimization
This book constitutes the proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Integer Programming and Combinatorial Optimization, IPCO 2011, held in New York, USA in June 2011. The 33 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 110 submissions. The conference is a forum for researchers and practitioners working on various aspects of integer programming and combinatorial optimization with the aim to present recent developments in theory, computation, and applications. The scope of IPCO is viewed in a broad sense, to include algorithmic and structural results in integer programming and combinatorial optimization as well as revealing computational studies and novel applications of discrete optimization to practical problems.
National Security and Human Health Implications of Climate Change
Climate change has been identified as one of the greatest threats to humanity of all times. In addition to producing adverse environmental conditions such as rising sea level, drought, crop failure, vector-borne diseases, extreme events, degradation of water/air quality and heat waves, climate change is also considered a threat multiplier that leads to local and international conflicts and armed interventions. Urban areas may bear the brunt of climate change, as they are the centers of human habitation, anthropogenic stressors and environmental degradation, and the ensuing health impacts are of grave societal concern. The papers in this volume span a suite of climate change repercussions, paying particular attention to national security and human health aspects. It is an outcome of a NATO Advanced Research Workshop held during April 28-30, 2011 in Dubrovnik, Croatia, sponsored by the NATO Science for Peace and Security Program. The contributions cut across the elements of modeling, natural, political and social sciences, engineering, politics, military intervention, urban planning, industrial activities, epidemiology and healthcare.
Cystic Fibrosis
Living healthy is all one wants, but the genetics behind creation of every human is different. As a curse or human agony, some are born with congenital defects in their menu of the genome. Just one has to live with that! The complexity of cystic fibrosis condition, which is rather a slow-killer, affects various organ systems of the human body complicating further with secondary infections. That's what makes the disease so puzzling for which scientists around the world are trying to understand better and to find a cure. Though they narrowed down to a single target gene, the tentacles of the disease reach many unknown corners of the human body. Decades of scientific research in the field of chronic illnesses like this one surely increased the level of life expectancy. This book is the compilation of interesting chapters contributed by eminent interdisciplinary scientists around the world trying to make the life of cystic fibrosis patients better.

Critical Information Infrastructure Security
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the Third International Workshop on Critical Information Infrastructures Security, CRITIS 2008, held in Rome, Italy, in October 2008. The 39 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 70 submissions. All the contributions highlight the current development in the field of Critical (Information) Infrastructures and their Protection. Specifically they emphasized that the efforts dedicated to this topic are beginning to provide some concrete results. Some papers illustrated interesting and innovative solutions devoted to understanding, analyzing and modeling a scenario composed by several heterogeneous and interdependent infrastructures. Furthermore, issues concerning crisis management scenarios for interdependent infrastructures have been illustrated. Encouraging preliminarily results have been presented about the development of new technological solutions addressing self-healing capabilities of infrastructures, that is regarded as one of the most promising research topics to improve the infrastructures' resilience.
Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis have been documented since antiquity and the search of the microbes that cause this disease started more than three hundred years ago. Nevertheless, tuberculosis remains an important global health issue, with millions of people affected per year in addition to millions that remain undiagnosed and untreated. Patients with tuberculosis face the full range of recurrence, reinfection, and resistance due to diagnostic, prophylactic, and therapeutic procedures that are not as effective as they should be. In addition, variability in susceptibility to tuberculosis pose a complex problem with numerous interrelated variables. This volume is devoted to the understanding of Tuberculosis focusing on its heterogeneity, its transmission, manifestations, related conditions, diagnosis, treatments, drug resistance and prevention.
Automata, Languages and Programming
The two-volume set LNCS 6198 and LNCS 6199 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 37th International Colloquium on Automata, Languages and Programming, ICALP 2010, held in Bordeaux, France, in July 2010. The 106 revised full papers (60 papers for track A, 30 for track B, and 16 for track C) presented together with 6 invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 389 submissions. The papers are grouped in three major tracks on algorithms, complexity and games; on logic, semantics, automata, and theory of programming; as well as on foundations of networked computation: models, algorithms and information management. LNCS 6198 contains 60 contributions of track A selected from 222 submissions as well as 2 invited talks.
