Essa é a história de um grupo de amigos, que se conheceram na adolescência e cresceram juntos, em todos os sentidos, e mais do que a história dessa galerinha, o foco da nossa viagem – meu caro leitor - é como se deu a evolução do pensamento desse pessoal, e a evolução desse que vos fala em particular. Por que cada um pensa de um jeito? Como se constrói uma forma de pensar, de escolher, de julgar, de analisar e, principalmente, de aceitar as coisas, as ideias, o conhecimento que adquirimos na vida. Essa minha galera era meu porto seguro, através deles e da nossa busca coletiva pelo conhecimento eu consegui amadurecer, consegui enxergar um pouco além do meu umbigo, e me senti responsável por esse mundo, senti que deveria me posicionar sobre as questões mundanas, pois por muitos anos a humanidade viveu refém do seus próprios medos, refém de um pavor que derivava do mero desconhecimento. E a possibilidade de obter esse conhecimento estava ali, à nossa mão, bastava estendê-la.

Vegetation of the Canary Islands
The volcanic and oceanic nature of the Canary Islands, its rich plant biodiversity and high rate of endemism, as well as the relict character of some of its plant communities make it a territory of great biological interest. The main geographic, climatic, bioclimatic, biogeographic and floristic features of the Islands are shown and related to the distributional pattern of potential communities along an altitudinal gradient. Current vegetation units and their ecology are described and illustrated with numerous pictures. Potential vegetation units are summarized and comprehensive maps of the potential natural vegetation for each island are given. Human impact on the natural landscape, the occurrence of invasive plants, and the probable impact of climate change on the flora and vegetation are discussed. The conservation status of flora and vegetation are assessed. Vegetation Ecology of Socotra
Although the unique flora of the Socotra Archipelago with its high degree of endemism has received much attention recently, little information is available on the vegetation and related ecological aspects. Based on their extensive field experience of the region, the authors have assimilated a vast amount of knowledge to produce this book, which gives a detailed insight into the plant ecology of Socotra, designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2008. The book is divided into seven chapters. After a brief introduction and overviews of important abiotic features, various aspects of the vascular flora are presented in Chapter 4, together with accounts of the bryophyte and lichen flora. Ecology and adaptive strategies of the plants are dealt with in Chapter 5, and Chapter 6 gives a concise description of the main vegetation units. Finally, important management issues of the vegetation are discussed, an essential topic to ensure preservation of the natural heritage of the archipelago.

The Political Economy of Upgrading Regimes: Brazil and beyond
Today’s middle-income countries tend to be locked in a middle-income trap, unable to transition to higher income levels due to rising costs and declining competitiveness. While there is a broad consensus that upgrading these economies towards innovation-led growth is imperative, countless institutional and political economy obstacles remain. This book brings together analytical perspectives from comparative political economy, innovation studies, and development economics for the study of technological upgrading. Its distinctive contribution is the development of an innovative theoretical framework, named upgrading regimes, combining and extending the comparative capitalism and innovation system perspectives. It explores the usefulness of this approach by providing an indepth assessment of the political economy of upgrading in Brazil under the Workers’ Party governments.
