Iberian Interfaces
This book explores a key historical moment for literary and cultural relations between Spain and Portugal. Focusing on the period between 1870 and 1930, it analyses the contacts between Portuguese and Spanish writers and artists of this period, showing that, at least among the cultural elites, there were intense and fruitful dialogues across political and linguistic borders. The book presents the Iberian Peninsula as a complex and multilingual cultural polysystem in which diverse literary cultures coexist and are mutually dependent upon each other. It offers a panoramic view of Iberian literary and cultural history, encompassing not just Portuguese and Spanish literary productions, but also Catalan, Galician and Basque works. Combining a clear theoretical foundation with deep historical knowledge and references to specific texts and works, the book offers a thorough introduction to Iberian literature in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.

Inclusão no Ensino Superior
Este livro é resultado de uma pesquisa de mestrado, desenvolvida no Departamento de Educação/Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (UFOP), que teve como objetivo investigar o processo de inclusão de estudantes com deficiência no Ensino Superior, identificando, segundo percepção dos próprios alunos, efeitos da formação acadêmica recebida. Apresenta a análise da influência de aspectos atitudinais, comunicacionais e físicos na formação desses estudantes na UFOP, verificando em que medida as ações institucionais podem ser consideradas promotoras de inclusão educacional, tendo como referencial teórico a Educação Especial Inclusiva. A obra se destina a todos aqueles que se preocupam com o estabelecimento de estratégias políticas e pedagógicas capazes de possibilitar a todos o direito à educação.
Strategies in the drug discovery and development for leishmaniasis: immunomodulators, natural products, synthetic compounds, and drug repositioning
Leishmaniases are a group of tropical diseases that affect millions of people worldwide. They are considered neglected diseases prevalent in emerging countries in Latin America, West Africa, and Southeast Asia and still occurring in Mediterranean countries. There is no human vaccine available to prevent and control the disease infection. For the last 70 years, the available chemotherapy has been constituted by first-line (pentavalent antimonials) and second-line drugs (amphotericin B, pentamidine, paramomycin, and miltefosine). Its route of administration is difficult, the treatment is long, and its efficiency varies depending on the parasite species and clinical manifestations, which results in the emergence of resistant cases. Moreover, they present high toxicity to patients, and even some less toxic formulations available, are still expensive for the poorest countries’ vulnerable populations. This often leads to abandonment and failure of treatment. The medical-scientific community is facing difficulties to overcome these issues with new suitable therapies, and the identification of new drug targets. So, it means that efforts to identify new strategies must continue.
