Danced By The Light of the Moon is the story of a charter sailboat vacation in the Virgin Islands gone terribly wrong. Ramsey Flynn, retired from the State Department, organizes bareboat charter vacations several times a year among friends and acquaintances. For his efforts, and the accompanying quality and cost savings enjoyed by his fellow travelers, he and a companion travel at no cost. For this cruise in the Virgin Islands he has organized two boats of an odd but paid in full mix of experienced and inexperienced sailors. They quickly discover that all is not right with the shady charter company Flynn has hooked them up with at a considerable discount, with their boats and with the weather which turns deadly. Join them as they try everything in their experience to save themselves.

This book provides the first in-depth look at Muslim life and institutions forming in North America. It considers the range of Islamic life in North America with its different racial-ethnic and cultural identities, customs, and religious orientations. Issues of acculturation, ethnicity, orthodoxy, and the changing roles of women are brought into focus. The authors provide insight into the lives of recent immigrants who are asking what is Islamically appropriate in a non-Muslim environment. Contrasts are drawn between Sunni and Shi'i groups, and attention is given to the activities of some Sufi organizations. The growing Islamic community among African-American Muslims is examined, including the followers of Warith Deen Muhammad and the sectarians identified with black power, such as the Nation of Islam, Darul Islam, and the Five Percenters. The authors document the challenge and issues which American Muslims face, such as pressure from overseas Muslims; dress and education; the influence of Islamic revivalism on the development of the community in this country; and the maintenance of Muslim identity amidst the pressures for assimilation.
Concensus and dissent, persistence and rapid change were at the heart of Yarrow's rich cultural life. These tensions, especially the inevitability of assimilation, walked hand in hand with the young pioneer settlers born in Russia and the next generation born in Canada. There was no possibility that the new generation would be absorbed into a Russian colony ethos or would move elsewhere in order to perpetuate it. Those who grew up in the early years of this community cannot go home again save in memory; the memories of a way of life and its webs of relationships and their meanings will probably die with that generation or those just a few years younger. "Village of Unsettled Yearnings" harnesses these memories to the surviving records and gives words to them.
