Human Slices
Human Slices is a love story about a woman who is happily childfree. It's her natural choice. She spells her name S-A-L-M but pronounces it Sam. "The l is silent," she says. It's her way of combining her given name, Samantha, with her father's nickname for her, Little Salmon. Picart explores ballroom dancing and its more "sporty" equivalent, DanceSport, suggesting that they are reflective of larger social, political, and cultural tensions. The past several years have seen a resurgence in the popularity of ballroom dance as well as an increasing international anxiety over how and whether to transform ballroom into an Olympic sport.
