The Slayer and The Spy

Slayer Kain DeAngelous knows that his reputation as a player is well earned, but that has never stopped him from taking on a mission for the Alpha Body. As long as his heart isn’t involved, he’s one of the best Slayers in North America. Until his latest assignment leaves him guarding the one man, he hoped to blot out of his memory. Sebastian “Bastian” Valdian has the world on his shoulders. As the family rock, he is the one who the others know can get the job done. Including spying on the employees of his own company for Rogue Vampires. A job that has led to some extreme measures of stress management. His whisper of control is tested when the head of the Council requests the help of the last werewolf Bastian ever wanted to see. Kain and Bastian both agree this is the last thing either man wants. To be trapped together until a murderer is captured. Every day is a new test of their resolve to keep their interactions platonic. Past fire burns to a near inferno leaving them both raw and scrambling. Can Kain overcome his fears before a murderer takes the very person meant for him? Or will he let the love of his life slip through his fingers for the second time?

The Goldseekers

A fascinating story of the goldfields - the hardships, injustices, and triumphs of the human spirit. In the mid-1850s, Australia is in the grips of Gold Fever. Muji and her older brother Dong-il, two Korean children, who have been abducted from their homeland, are working on the goldfields to save for a passage home. Sam and his father, Mister Bill, are also trying their luck on the goldfields in order to create a better life for their family. Both parties are eking out a living and then disaster strikes ... In the stealth of night, a group of men raid the celestial camp destroying everything. Sam and his father, who have been visiting the camp of Muji and Dong-il on the night of the raid fall victims to their fellow Europeans' hostility. Sam is appalled with this behaviour and helps Muji and Dong-il to safety, but he wants to do more. It is the puppy, Ah-Poo, that comes to everyone's rescue when gold dust is discovered in his fur. Sam must race to find his two friends, who have left the goldfields and convince them to come back and stake a claim. He must also convince his father that unity between the Celestials and Europeans is possible, if not for all, at least for them.

Australian Children's Books: 1989-2000

All Australian children's books published from 1989 to 2000 are listed in this essential reference for those who appreciate the richness of Australian writing for children. Following the same format as volumes 1 and 2 in this series chronicling books published as early as 1774, entries include publishing details, the number of illustrations, and the awards received for each book. This third volume follows the continuing careers of authors such as Mem Fox, Bob Graham, Robin Klein, and Paul Jennings, and traces changes in the popularity of Australian themes and settings to identify publishing trends. Varied cultural aspects of modern-day life are shown, from globalization, commercialism, and the rise of the middle class in Asia to desktop publishing, outcome-based school curricula, and the modern obsession with celebrities all of which are reflected in the type and quantity of books produced by Australian writers and publishers. The wealth of included material will extend researchers' understanding of the range of Australian children's books. "
