Private Collectors in Mantua, 1500-1630
Case studies of private art collections recorded during the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries in Mantua. This work seeks to show how the collectors' taste changed during this period and how these changes are reflected in the collections' display, and also seeks to contribute to the understanding of the original context of works of art in sixteenth and early seventeenth century private houses in a courtly city.
The Art of Experiment
A showcase of the Courtauld Gallery's outstanding Parmigianino collection. Accompanying an exhibition at London's Courtauld Gallery, this stunning catalog presents works by the Renaissance artist Girolamo Francesco Maria Mazzola, better known as Parmigianino (1503-1540). Fundamentally a draftsman at heart, Parmigianino drew relentlessly during his relatively short life, and around a thousand of his drawings have survived. The Courtauld's collection comprises twenty-four sheets. In preparation for the catalog, new photography and technical examinations have been carried out on all the works, revealing two new drawings that were previously unknown, hidden underneath their historic mounts. They have also helped to better identify connections between some of the drawings and the finished paintings for which they were conceived. This stunning illustrated catalog presents the whole Courtauld collection and sheds light on an artist who approached every technique with unprecedented freedom and produced innovative works that are still admired by artists and collectors today.

Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino in Art Collections and in the History of Collecting
Raphael’s artworks, paintings, altarpieces, drawings, tapestries, cartoons, prints, ceramics and all other artifacts derived from his works, including copies and forgeries, have been the object of an often-frantic search from his death in 1520 onwards. France, Spain, Germany, England, and Italy were the main destinations for such artworks between the 16th and the 18th centuries, while the market spread overseas from the 19th century onwards. This book is the first full exploration of this phenomenon and of the mechanisms of transmission of Raphael’s artifax through inheritance, sales, swaps and shady transactions.
