The biennial Brazilian Symposium on Arti?cial Intelligence (SBIA 2002) – of which this is the 16th event – is a meeting and discussion forum for arti?cial intelligence researchers and practitioners worldwide. SBIA is the leading c- ference in Brazil for the presentation of research and applications in arti?cial intelligence. The ?rst SBIA was held in 1984, and since 1995 it has been an international conference, with papers written in English and an international program committee, which this year was composed of 45 researchers from 13 countries. SBIA 2002 was held in conjunction with the VII Brazilian Symposium on Neural Networks (SBRN 2002). SBRN 2002 focuses on neural networks and on o...
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th Portuguese Conference on Artificial Intelligence, EPIA '97, held in Coimbra, Portugal, in October 1997. The volume presents 24 revised full papers and 9 revised posters selected from 74 submissions from various countries. Also included are two full invited papers and two abstracts of invited talks. The papers are organized in topical sections on automated reasoning and theorem proving; CBR and machine learning; constraints; intelligent tutoring; knowledge representation; multi-agent systems and DAI; nonmonotonic, qualitative and temporal reasoning, and problem solving.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, MICAI 2005, held in Monterrey, Mexico, in November 2005. The 120 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 423 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on knowledge representation and management, logic and constraint programming, uncertainty reasoning, multiagent systems and distributed AI, computer vision and pattern recognition, machine learning and data mining, evolutionary computation and genetic algorithms, neural networks, natural language processing, intelligent interfaces and speech processing, bioinformatics and medical applications, robotics, modeling and intelligent control, and intelligent tutoring systems.
Web engineering is a new discipline that addresses the pressing need for syst- atic and tool-supported approaches for the development, maintenance and te- ing of Web applications. Web engineering builds upon well-known and succe- ful software engineering principles and practices, adapting them to the special characteristics of Web applications. Even more relevant is the enrichment with methods and techniques stemming from related areas like hypertext authoring, human-computer interaction, content management, and usability engineering. This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the Fifth International School and Symposium on Advanced Distributed Systems, ISSADS 2005, held in Guadalajara, Mexico in January 2005. The 50 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from over 100 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on database systems, distributed and parallel algorithms, real-time distributed systems, cooperative information systems, fault tolerance, information retrieval, modeling and simulation, wireless networks and mobile computing, artificial life and multi agent systems.
This volume contains the proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Applicable Algebra, Error-Correcting Codes, Combinatorics and Computer Algebra (AAECC-4), held in Karlsruhe, 23-26 September, 1986. Selected papers which were given at the conference have been reviewed a second time and are presented here.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 2nd International Joint Conference of the 10th Ibero-American Conference on Artificial Intelligence, IBERAMIA 2006, and the 18th Brazilian Artificial Intelligence Symposium, SBIA 2006. The book presents 62 revised full papers together with 4 invited lectures. Topical sections include AI in education and intelligent tutoring systems, autonomous agents and multiagent systems, computer vision and pattern recognition, evolutionary computation and artificial life, and more.
Accounting has often been described as the language of business. As the increasing competition of overseas markets begins to affect even the smallest local companies, many more business professionals must become fluent in accounting principles and practice. Standardization of Financial Reporting and Accounting in Latin American Countries highlights the recent move to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and addresses some of the concerns raised due to cultural differences and the level of enforcement of these standards in separate countries. Describing the evolution of both financial and managerial accounting due to the adoption of IFRS, this book is an essential reference source for both students and seasoned professionals in the fields of accounting, finance, and related management fields, especially those with an international emphasis.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 9th Ibero-American Conference on Artificial Intelligence, IBERAMIA 2004, held in Puebla, Mexico in November 2004. The 97 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 304 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on distributed AI and multi-agent systems, knowledge engineering and case-based reasoning, planning and scheduling, machine learning and knowledge acquisition, natural language processing, knowledge representation and reasoning, knowledge discovery and data mining, robotics, computer vision, uncertainty and fuzzy systems, genetic algorithms and neural networks, AI in education, and miscellaneous topics.
The Brazilian Symposium on Artificial Intelligence (SBIA) has been organized by the Interest Group on Artificial Intelligence of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) since 1984. In order to promote research in Artificial Intelligence and scientific interaction among Brazilian AI researchers and practitioners, and with their counterparts worldwide, it is being organized as an international forum since 1993. The SBIA proceedings have been published by Springer-Verlag as a part of the Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNAI) series since 1995. The XIVth SBIA, held in 1998 at the PUCRS Campus in Porto Alegre, has maintained the international tradition and standards previously established:...
