The papers in this proceeding discuss current and future trends in wearable communications and personal health management through the use of wireless body area networks (WBAN). The authors posit new technologies that can provide trustworthy communications mechanisms from the user to medical health databases. The authors discuss not only on-body devices, but also technologies providing information in-body. Also discussed are dependable communications combined with accurate localization and behavior analysis, which will benefit WBAN technology and make the healthcare processes more effective. The papers were presented at the 13th EAI International Conference on Body Area Networks (BODYNETS 2018), Oulu, Finland, 02-03 October 2018.
The recent developments in biomedical sensors, wireless communication systems, and information networks are transforming the conventional healthcare systems. The transformed healthcare systems are enabling distributed healthcare services to patients who may not be co-located with the healthcare providers, providing early diagnoses, and reducing the cost in the healthcare section. The developments in medical internet of things (m-IoT) would enable a range of applications, including remote health monitoring through medical-grade wearables to provide homecare for elderlies; virtual doctor-patient interaction to have any time and place access to medical professionals; wireless endoscopic examina...
The volume of data that is generated, stored, and communicated across different industrial sections, business units, and scientific research communities has been rapidly expanding. The recent developments in cellular telecommunications and distributed/parallel computation technology have enabled real-time collection and processing of the generated data across different sections. On the one hand, the internet of things (IoT) enabled by cellular telecommunication industry connects various types of sensors that can collect heterogeneous data. On the other hand, the recent advances in computational capabilities such as parallel processing in graphical processing units (GPUs) and distributed proc...
Wireless communications have a strong impact on improving the quality of life in this century. Smart phones industry is now considered one of the most attractive fields, so advanced research is conducted in order to improve the quality of service in wireless communication environments. Many design challenges such as power consumption, quality of service, low cost, high data rate and small size are being treated every day. This book aims to provide highlights of the current research in the field of wireless communications. The subjects discussed are very valuable to communication researchers as well as researchers in the wireless related areas. The book chapters cover a wide range of wireless communication topics that are considered key technologies for future applications.
This book constitutes the refereed post-conference proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Body Area Networks, BodyNets 2020, held in Tallinn, Estonia, in October 2020. The conference was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 15 papers presented were selected from 30 submissions and issue new technologies to provide trustable measuring and communications mechanisms from the data source to medical health databases. Wireless body area networks (WBAN) are one major element in this process. Not only on-body devices but also technologies providing information from inside a body are in the focus of this conference. Dependable communications combined with accurate localization and behavior analysis will benefit WBAN technology and make the healthcare processes more effective.
The rise in living standards increases the expectation of people in almost every field. At the forefront is health. Over the past few centuries, there have been major developments in healthcare. Medical device technology and developments in artificial intelligence (AI) are among the most important ones. The improving technology and our ability to harness the technology effectively by means such as AI have led to unprecedented advances, resulting in early diagnosis of diseases. AI algorithms enable the fast and early evaluation of images from medical devices to maximize the benefits. While developments in the field of AI were quickly adapted to the field of health, in some cases this contribu...
Focusing primarily on the 20th century, a reference presents alphabetical entries on individuals, political and religious institutions and movements, events, institutions, ethnic groupings, and cultural practices important to Afghan history. Also included are a number of primary documents, including the procedures for the Emergency Loya Jirga of 2002, as well as lists of Taliban and Transitional government figures and institutions.
Interference Alignment: A New Look at Signal Dimensions in a Communication Network provides both a tutorial and a survey of the state-of-art on the topic.
