This 1996 volume reviewed advances in the field of human tumour immunology for an audience of clinicians and researchers.
Organ transplantation is a life-saving surgical procedure through which the functionality of a failing organ system can be restored. However, without the life-long administration of immunosuppressive drugs, the recipient’s immune system will launch a massive immune attack that will ultimately destroy the graft. Although successful at protecting the graft from an immune attack, long-term use of immunosuppressive drugs leads to serious complications (e.g., increased risk of infection, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and cancer). Moreover, recipients suffer from limited long-term graft survival rates due to the inability of current treatments to establish tolerance to the tran...
An authoritative collection of optimal techniques for producing and characterizing the immunologically active cells and effector molecules now gaining wide use in the clinical treatment of patients. Taking advantage of the latest technologies, the authors present readily reproducible experimental protocols for the study of dendritic cells, T cells, monoclonal antibodies, and bone marrow transplantation. The emphasis is on preclinicical and clinical applications and on the progress of selected approaches in clinical trials. Additional chapters cover the molecular definition of target antigens, mathematical modeling approaches to immunotherapy, and the utilization of regulatory T cells. The protocols make it possible to study the adoptive transfer of tailored antigen-specific immune cells and to improve the clinical application of adoptive immunotherapy.

This volume represents a series of papers presented at the Second International Workshop on HPV Immunology held at the University of Cambridge July 5-7 1993. This Workshop and its predecessor held in Amsterdam in May 1992 were two of the major activities of the European Concerted Action "Immunology of Human Papillomavirus and Vaccine Development". The Concerted Action (CA) was supported by grants from the Commission of the European Communities (EC), the French Association for Cancer Research (ARC) and the European Association for Medical Research (EAMR). Twenty two laboratories throughout Europe and Scandinavia were members of the CA, the objectives of which were to develop collaborations, i...
Containing contributions by clinicians and cancer scientists presented at an international conference on [title] held during September 1991 in London, this volume critically reviews the potential utility of oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes as targets for novel forms of anti-cancer therapy. After examining the basic biology of selected growth factor receptor molecules and suppressor molecules in human cancers, the volume discusses in depth various ways in which knowledge of these systems can be used in clinical practice.
