In the book, al-Jawhar al-Munddam, Qastalānī1 and Ibn Hajar state that: “Ibn Taymiyyah forbids visiting the Prophet’s (s) grave, and further declares that whether one is travelling or not, Zīyārah (visiting) of the Messenger’s grave is prohibited.” Thus, if visiting the Prophet’s (s) grave is prohibited, then, a fortiori, so is visiting any other grave. Ibn Taymiyyah assumes that the prohibition of travelling for the sole reason of visiting the Prophet’s (s) grave is unanimously prohibited and prayers are not shortened on such a trip.

Servants of the Sharia
This volume contains the full Qadi Records of Brava (1893 - 1900). The importance of these records for those studying Southern Somalia and the Swahili coast cannot be overestimated. The register is like a daily journal of events in a typical Swahili town. The information in the records covers a wide range of issues: Slavery, the role of women and their usage of the court system in the 19th century, the role of the Ulama, trade, inheritance, et cetera. The register is signed and stamped by the Italian Commander/governor in Asmara, Eritrea where it was taken and authenticated and bears the Official Stamp of the Royal Italian Government. Before passing up a career in law for the writing life, Richard Matthews Hallett lived an exciting life of adventure, that included a stint as a police officer, and as a seaman aboard a schooner bound for Australia. He then trekked across that country and lived by his wits in England for a time before returning to the States. Later, he was a deck officer on warships convoying soldiers and horses across the Atlantic in WW I, and facing U-boat attacks. Over is life, Hallett wrote several novels and more than 200 short stories that were published in the most widely read magazines of the day, including the Saturday Evening Post, Harper's, Atlantic, Collier's, Everybody's, and American Legion Monthly. The stories gathered here, published in the first half of the twentieth century, include vivid tales of the sea, both in the days of sail and in the midst of war, often built around ship-board tensions and tumult; and stories of Maine and New England and their small town values and rivalries.
