Complexity is a gift that can be made available for the successful implementation of projects, and used to create a new order or to change an existing one. Based on scientific facts, the authors present a systematic approach, which integrates complexity and its multitude of facets and gives practical recommendations for dealing with complexity in projects. The methods paradigm in project management is currently undergoing a massive upheaval. Projects are complex entities that cannot be tackled using traditional methods, such as classical cause and effect approaches. Complexity, and the associated phenomenon of self-organization, is a natural, but hidden designer. It offers a great opportunity in its use as a key driver for the implementation of projects. This requires identification of the principles of complexity and then using these for project management. In this book, the latest findings from natural sciences and brain research are used and transferred within a practice-oriented framework. The authors describe the methods of complexity regulation in projects and how self-organization for the management of projects can be applied.
This is the first English book on Project Comparison Technique. It facilitates the first steps towards project comparisons for project management experts and scientists. It also details possible approaches and relates real-world experiences.

This anthology is based on a symposium which had as its key issue a critical discussion of different theories of modernisation from the perspective of people's activities in local manorial societies. Modernisation can be studied in terms of changing values, norms and social relationships. From a theoretical point of view the book makes use of the possibility to change main macro-conceptions of the modernisation process, using dichotomies such as feudal/capitalist and individual/collective, and it also tries to integrate tradition and continuity perspective.
Chemical oxidation technologies are rapidly maturing into a wide variety of processes for the treatment of difficult waste streams, including wastewater, groundwater, hazardous waste and air. This volume is the fifth proceedings of the international symposium on chemical oxidation processes applied to environmental problems.
The book presents the results of the joint annual conference of the four Operations Research Societies DGOR, GM\OR, \GOR and SVOR, held in Vienna in 1990. The main goal was to present practical experiences as well as theoretical results. Both aspects are covered in a balanced way. Papers cover topics from the fields Optimization, Stochastic Modells, Decision Theory and Multicriteria Decision Making, Control Theory, Mathematical Economics, Game Theory, Macroeconomics, Econometrics and Statistics, Supercomputing and Simulation, Non-linear Systems, Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems, Fuzzy Sets and Systems, Production, Logistics, Inventory and Marketing among others.
