Unrecorded trade catalog for this prolific Philadelphia seedsman who sold seeds by mail. Six pages are devoted to annual flower seeds that were available. The remaider of the text provides growing instructions. The rear wrap is a further advertisement for ever-blooming roses (Bourbon, China, Noisette, etc.) and bedding plants; all on offer at Dreer's nursery and green house at 35th and Elm -Streets in West Philadelphia. In 1838, Henry Augustus Dreer (1818-1873) first opened his seed and florist store, Henry A. Dreer, Inc. "Dreer saw the need for demonstration and experiment farms. From 1839-1850, his nursery was on the estate of William Hamilton, known as 'The Woodlands.' His six small greenhouses were at 35th Street for twenty-three years until 1873 when they were moved to three hundred acres at Riverton, New Jersey. He was a pioneer in introducing color printing to the trade in his bulb catalog in 1865." (Smithsonian Institution).
