Artificial Intelligence and Other Innovative Computer Applications in the Nuclear Industry

This conference brought together experts from 15 countries to discuss application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques to the nuclear industry. It was apparent from the meeting that even those active in the field were surprised at the extent of work and the progress made. There was a strong impression that application of this technology to nuclear power plants is inevitable. The benefits to improved operation, design, and safety are simply too significant to be ignored. This is a much different conclusion than might have been reached a few years ago when the technology was new and people were struggling to understand its significance. The Third Reich proves Lord Byron's maxim that truth is stranger than fiction. Hitler's mania made the Reich surreal. This book documents his neuroses, charisma, ruthlessness, and "storybook" rise to power. It's alarming that an astute psychopath with acting ability became an absolute dictator in a modern European state. German political naivety contributed to his miraculous ascent. During election campaigns between 1927 and 1933 Hitler posed as an anti-Communist savior, while concealing his real agenda of war, genocide, and quack "eugenics." The Surreal Reich closely examines all leading Nazis. It shows how Hitler had different sets of favorites at various times. Dietrich Eckart, Rudolf Hes...

This report contains the final technical analysis of the Project Independence Interagency Nuclear Task Force chaired by the Atomic Energy Commission. The task force was formed in April 1974 to provide estimates for the Project Independence Blueprint of the potential production capabilities of the nuclear industry and the resources necessary to achieve these levels of production. The task force evaluated several alternative strategies which assumed various levels of potential production. The report is organized into three sections. The first two sections consists of the introduction and the findings of the Task Force. The third section consist of topical discussions of the major resources (e.g., financial investments, manpower, and materials and equipment) required to achieve the projected production levels as well as subjects associated with nuclear power generation (e.g., environmental effects, public acceptance, research and development).
