Whilst you were at it, thinking no decent citizen would peer in through lowered curtains at your version of domestic bliss, Applebroog was freeze-framing your scenes for posterity (yours, not hers). Show and tell seems to be the driving element behind her late-blooming career; variously labeled as a social voyeurist and a commentator, she is most aptly described as a willing witness of the way things work in that mini-theater of cruelty called life. Though her work is featured in the permanent collections of major international institutions, Applebroog's work has not received the public attention it deserves, a situation which this monograph means to remedy.
