The authors present a sound, practical approach to information prioritization in progressive image transmission. The method, suitable for a variety of imaging applications from consumer products to the defense, publishing, science, and law enforcement industries, first states some general principles that the solution must obey and then derives the solution that satisfies exactly those principles. The text is intended for graduate students as well as engineers and research scientists in the field of image coding.

This book offers an essential guide to Wireless Sensor Networks, IoT Security, Image Processing, Secure Information Systems, and Data Encryption. In addition, it introduces students and aspiring practitioners to the subject of destination marketing in a structured manner. It is chiefly intended for researcher students in the areas of Wireless Sensor Networks and Secure Data Communication (including image encryption, and intrusion detection systems), academics at universities and colleges, IT professionals, policymakers and legislators. Given its content, the book can be used as a reference text for both undergraduate and graduate studies, in courses on Wireless Sensor Networks, Secure Image Processing, and Data Encryption applications. The book is written in plain and easy-to-follow language and explains each main concept the first time it appears, helping readers with no prior background in the field. As such, it is a “must-read” guide to the subject matter.
Abstract: Applications of digital image processing become more widespread, especially as the transfer of images from one entity to another using the internet as the medium of transfer is increasing. Digital image transmission technology has found advanced applications in various fields where security is of paramount importance. Examples of such applications include medical databases and confidentiality of patient records, military databases and prevention of leaking of classified materials, business databases and protection of enterprise-wide records; online document storage systems, etc. Although a lot of research has been done on secure image transmission, several issues still remain unres...
Transmission of images over low speed, low bandwidth channels has several applications. Examples include transmission of remote sensing images, scanning of vast global databases and facsimile transmission of printed material. In progressive image transmission, a low resolution image is first transmitted with as few bits as possible. The resolution of the transmitted image is then improved interactively upon viewer's request. Eventually, an exact copy of the original image is reconstructed.
