Problem-based learning is becoming increasingly popular in higher education because it is seen to take account of pedagogical and social trends (such as flexibility, adaptability, problem-solving and critique) in ways which many traditional methods of learning do not. Task-based language teaching (TBLT) has been attracting the attention of researchers, curriculum developers, teacher trainers and language teachers for many years. However, much of the available literature and research has been from a psycholinguistic perspective, driven by the desire to understand how people acquire a second language. Far less research has been carried out as to whether TBLT works for real teachers and real learners in a classroom environment. This book aims to offer a unique contribution by uniting a discussion of task-based pedagogical principles with descriptions of their application to real life language education problems. It provides an account of the many challenges and obstacles that the implementation of TBLT raises and discusses the different options for overcoming them. The book contains a substantial body of research from Flanders, where the implementation of TBLT has been a nationwide project for fifteen years in primary, secondary and adult education.

Between 1154, when Henry II became king, and 1307, when Edward I died, the common law underwent spectacular growth. The author begins with a discussion of the relationship between the early rules of common law and the social order they serve during this period and concludes with an extended commentary on the durability and continued growth of the common law in modern times.
This report examines current practice regarding the use of demographic indicators to define and measure the concept of the family, both in statistical and sociological terms. The study indicates that the only statistically meaningful unit for the creation of family indicators is the household, as the family remains a variable concept determined by social and political factors.
