Mountain Partnership Secretariat Annual Report 2020
The Mountain Partnership Secretariat Annual Report outlines key achievements in promoting sustainable mountain development last year in its 2020 annual report. The publication documents the Secretariat’s work in the areas of advocacy, communication, and knowledge management, promoting International Mountain Day, brokering joint action, and leading capacity development initiatives. This publication intends to provide an overview of the Mountain Partnership’s efforts in the world also during the COVID 19 crisis. Although it is not a comprehensive report of all members’ activities, it is a chance to celebrate and appreciate the many national, regional, and international collaborations, institutional strengthening, capacity development initiatives, thematic conferences, and scientific reports that have taken place within the framework of the Mountain Agenda.
Mountains of Northern Europe
This publication contains the proceedings of an international conference, held in Pitlochry, Scotland in November 2002, to mark the UN International Year of Mountains 2002. The conference participants discussed the state of current knowledge about the mountains of Northern Europe and considered issues arising from the interactions between people and nature, and the conservation and sustainable development activities needed to benefit the natural heritage of mountain regions in the UK, Norway and Sweden, Finland and Iceland.

Mountain Biodiversity
Originally published in 2002, Mountain Biodiversity deals with the biological richness, function and change of mountain environments. The book was birthed from the first global conference on mountain biodiversity and was a contribution to the International Year of Mountains in 2002. The book examines biological diversity as essential for the integrity of mountain ecosystems and argues that this dependency is likely to increase as environmental climates and social conditions change. This book seeks to examine the biological riches of all major mountain ranges, from around the world and using existing knowledge on mountain biodiversity, examines a broad range of research in diversity, including that of plants, animals, human and bacterial diversity. The book also examines climate change and mountain biodiversity as well as land use and conservation.

Key Issues for Mountain Areas
Mountain areas cover almost one quarter of the earth's land surface, with a quarter of the global population living on them or very close by, and they are sources of water, food, timber, minerals and other natural resources. They provide many opportunities for recreation, as well as being centres of biological and cultural diversity and religious significance. Unfortunately, mountain environments and populations are also particularly threatened by climate change and political conflicts, and their inhabitants include many of the poorest and most vulnerable in the world. This publication includes a number of papers which explore a range of sustainable development challenges for mountain regions.
