The Physical Oceanography of Sea Straits

Suppose one were given the task of mapping the general circulation in an unfamiliar ocean. The ocean, like our own, is subdivided into basins and marginal seas interconnected by sea straits. Assuming a limited budget for this undertaking, one would do well to choose the straits as observational starting points. To begin with, the currents flowing from one basin to the next, over possibly wide and time-varying paths, are confined to narrow and stable routes within the straits. Mass, heat and chemical budgets for individual basins can be formulated in terms of the fluxes measured across the straits using a relatively small number of instruments. The confinement of the flow by a strait can also...

Philip Hoare, in his biography of Coward described Semi-Monde as his "most daring play to date. In a chic Parisian hotel, a series of sexual pairings take place through rendezvous, arguments, infidelities and reconciliations: sexual deviance is undisguised...set in the bisexual 1920s, the play could easily be populated by characters of Coward's society". Point Valaine is "the drama of a lurid episode of lust in the semi-tropics.. unmistakably the work of a master of the stage" (New York Times); South Sea Bubble which concerns "the Governor's lady in the Isle of Samolo who plays with native fire, nearly gets her wings singed, bashes her native admirer with a bottle and at one of those Coward next-morning-at breakfast scenes slips her way out of the scrape with feline grace." (Manchester Guardian) whilst Nude With Violin is a witty comedy about art fraud.

Delphi Collected Works of Noël Coward (Illustrated)

The interwar English playwright Noël Coward is best known for his highly polished comedies of manners, including the enduring masterpieces ‘The Vortex’, ‘Hay Fever’, ‘Present Laughter’ and ‘Blithe Spirit’. His plays caught the clipped speech and brittle disillusion of the generation that emerged from the Great War, while his popular songs and revues struck the world-weary note of his times. An indefatigable genius, he performed almost every function in the theatre, including producing, directing, dancing, singing and acting, as well as directing motion pictures. This eBook presents Coward’s collected works, with numerous illustrations, rare texts, informative introductions...

The Girl in the Mirror: Isobel’s Dream

Isobel played the DVD for the umpteenth time, watching again as Hannah Cockcroft sped round the track in her racing wheelchair to win gold in the Paralympic Games. She glanced across at her wheelchair, her big, heavy, awkward wheelchair, knowing that she could only dream of owning one like Hannah’s. Unbeknown to Isobel, her classmate Lucy knows of her dream and has a plan. With her magical friend Horla, they train Pip, a Jack Russell dog, to perform amazing tricks and enter him in a talent competition, intending to use the prize money to buy Isobel the wheelchair she desperately desires. But, as they are about to perform, a feeling of guilt comes over them–they realise it isn’t right to rob another contestant of the prize they have trained so very hard for, but if they don’t, how else can they buy the wheelchair? What followed was completely out of the blue, and certainly unexpected! Read this and other magical tales, including: The bull to the rescue, The curious case of the flying jockeys, Lazy Larry and his talking brush and The robins and the pterodactyl.

Then his mother is found dead, sexually assaulted and murdered. Not only is there a killer on the loose, but the dead woman's partner is demanding custody of the child.
