在典型的市場經濟，有隻「看不見的手」在運作，在非典型的市場經濟，卻經常有隻「看得見的手」在操作。台灣經濟已由開發中階段進展為新興工業化階段，而且正向已開發階段邁進，政府那隻「看得見的手」也由高度干預演變為干預放鬆，再由干預放鬆演變為經濟自由化、國際化，讓市場機能發揮最大的作用。由於市場機制不健全，政府乃經常進行干預。如果在過去沒有政府干預，完全聽任市場運作，台灣經濟是否會有更好的表現，尚無肯定的答案。不過，在過去50多年的經濟發展過程中，台灣社會由落後變為進步，台灣經濟由貧窮變為富裕，且被譽為台灣奇蹟，這都與政府那隻「看得見的手」脫不了關係。值此二十一世紀，全球化潮流難以抗拒，那隻「看得見的手」是否還有發生作用的空間，正考驗決策者的智慧。
