"Jake's Preacher Gig" is a two-part story that focuses on characters from three separate families, tracking the daily life of the principle character, Reverend Jake Millsaps. The story takes place at picturesque but fictitious Hyacinth College in Plant City, in East Tennessee. The time period is the 1989-1990 school year. One of Jake's primary duties is to develop a drug intervention program to combat the college's flagging enrollment. The point of view of this tale is unique: we see all action though the eyes of a group of stumbling demons. Our demons do not dispense curses, nor do they commit any physical mayhem. They exist only in the spiritual dimension and use their powers of suggestion to try to influence events in Jake's day-to-day life. Their purpose is to encourage chaos to undermine Jake's effectiveness as campus pastor.
This collection offers inspirational and motivational insight on the reality of living by faith. Thank God for a love that went right on reaching down to us, even after we nailed it to a tree! If we need to make some changes, picking January 1 as a starting point wont help much. The changes God requires of us have to do with courage, discipline, and faith. They are spiritual battles that are waged daily, and we dare not leave them for the first of January. Sometimes we are like people going up in an elevator, holding on to our heavy suitcase. Put it down, and the elevator will take care of it for you. When living by faith, you are instructed to give all your worries and cares to God for He cares about what happens to you (1 Peter 5:7 NLB). Revival should be an everyday affair, where day by day I come under the lordship of Christ. Its not what comes down from heaven that brings revival; its who is already in your temple and mine. Its not a vertical downpour; its a horizontal takeover. As we allow the Holy Spirit to claim all the ground in our lives, thats revival!

In May of 1958, Virginia newspapers were reporting that the Christ Church, Martinsville, Virginia congregational leadership had declared that their bishop’s plan to integrate the summer youth camp “is both illegal and ill-advised” and that they would oppose any “intermingling of the races.” Amid this controversy, a quiet revolution stirred among that congregation’s young people, uplifted by their youthful, energetic priest, The Reverend Philip Gresham. When these brave young people stood with their bishop in favor of an integrated youth camp their opinion was derided as youthful naïveté. It was suggested that they focus on their studies and leave such problems to the adults. Ra...
